no claims bonus/ no claims discount? i used to have 8 years but when i had my off in 2006 it dropped to 4? eh i said? but i lived with their decision at 4 years, after my off last year my insurance said i was down to 1 year? so ok i thought 1 year it is let's try and build on that. my renual came today at ?500ish pounds with mce so i rang to ask a few questions, he told me straight away i'd got NO no claims bonus? so i argued the toss! guess what i have one year again? do any of these ppl know how to do their job? my thinking on the subject was u loose 2 years each time you have an accident?

When I was knocked off and 3rd party admitted full liability, at renewal I had no no claims. So blasted my brokers who would talk to underwriter and phone me back.
Surprise, they did phone back. Despite it be recorded as a non fault claim. it had killed my NCD. Re-instated in full.

Have you changed insurers in the last few years at all? One thing to note is that different insurers have different max NCB levels. A lot have 5 years as their maximum, so even if you have been insured, without claims, for 8 years, you'll only have 5 years NCD. If they take 2 years per claim, you'd go down to 3 years if you made a claim, not 6 years as you might think (going off your 8 years).
I had thought before you mentioned going to 3 years from 8 years but you just mentioned 4 - so not really sure I can explain your situation I'm afraid - but the above might help you explain it :)
