...But they were only gonna offer me about 1k for my SV, so I will be selling that privately, if anyone is interested in a Curvy Yellow SV, with 15k on the clock!?

Good idea but the only way to really tell is to have a look around the outle of the exhaust and you should see a E or BS stamp, without that it ain't legal!
I have a M4 full system which is from the US, about 5 years ago I could get away with its noise as it wasn't BS or E stamped and also not stamped 'not for road use' the old bill could not prove it was illegal at the side of the road. Unfortunately now if it isn't BS or E stamped it is not road legal (has to be seen on the can or on a removable baffle (without it being removed)).
Some Yoshi's are road legal, but as to there name and of what bikes they are for I do not know.

Yes, I just had a look through the Yoshi product list and there is no Road Legal exhaust for that model CBR.

Could be one of these, the Stainless one, it's in the 'ROAD' category of Yoshi's site. Hope so.

Can't imagine the dealer will be allowed to sell it to me if it's exhaust is not legal for the road.

I'm certain that the RS3 is a race exhaust. Its getting a bit long in the tooth now, it has been around for ages!
I know a guy with a GSXR, who has one and it is pretty loud.
If you're worried get a universal baffle on ebay or change can. Yoshi's usually sell for decent money, so you should be able to replace it with something nice.

Thats still a race can, just under the section of 'road' as it fits onto a production road bike. The RS3 is a race can.

Best of all, this can is NOT stamped 'not for road use' or similar
With the change in the law, a can no longer has to be 'E' marked. As long as it doesn't specify race use only or similar, it is up to the MOT testers discretion as to whether or not it passes (without the incriminating stamp, it's not so easy for plod to ticket you either!)

Legally the dealer is supposed to sell the bike in full road legal trim, that includes the exhaust. They may have the OEM one laying around, they don't have to have it fitted to the bike when it leaves the showroom but the bike must be sold with a road legal exhaust by a registered trader!

That's what I was hoping. By definition, would that mean having to have one which explicitly says it on the exhaust?

Basically the vehicle must be sold with a road legal exhaust unless the vehicle is to be used for off road purposes only! A road legal exhaust does not have to be fitted but must be supplied at the time the vehicle is handed over!
Ask them to see if they have the OEM can, many Honda owners are good with things like this and will often hand over OEM parts when they sell the bike. If they do not have it ask for a discount of some sort to claim for a road legal exhaust, a removable baffle one is best as you can have race can noise one day and quiet and legal the next.

It's a dealer, Stratstone in Clay Cross. The definately said that there was no original can. But I guess an original one wouldn't be much off ebay. Still, want it to be sold road legal in the first place. ;)

Presumably you are referring to Construction and Use regs as I am sure that wrt the MOT it now doesn't need to be explicitly stamped (which is I thought what the Ebay seller was referring to)?

Hehe, I know what you mean Gr33k. They came across to me like that the first time I went there a month or so ago. But they have the bike I want (and there are not many 600FS's for sale around here) at a decent price. So I decided sod it, even if I wasn't keen on the staff, the bike was right. :smt041 But they definately have that 'big company' feel to them, which can make them a bit more unflexable I think.
I'm down at Junction 25, Long Eaton actually. But it aint that far upto Rotherham, used to do it weekly when I played hockey up that way!
Btw, to those who might be interested in my SV for sale, I will get all the details together this weekend and let you know.
Thanks,
David
btw if that exhaust someone listed at the top of the page has a little metal mount with a rubber block on it, it WON'T fit.
I bought one by mistake.
