Nice torque curve indeed. As for the med range. It isnt like the SV's power characteristics. SV at half revs is making ~40BHP which is nearly 60% of its peak power. Your R6 at half its revs is making ~50BHP about 40% its peak power. From this you can tell that your R6 is tuned for peak power. The SV isnt tuned at all .

The point is my R6 engine is making the same or more power than my/a SV across the board ... it just the R6 keeps building when the SV has run out of revs!! ;) If I was to only use the motor in the same rev range as the SV, then it'd still be performing about the same as the SV, better for much of it .. so saying 600s don't have torque/midrange like a twin is clearly untrue as if ridden at exactly the same revs, my R6 motor will be producing similar torque and power to the SV, if you couldn’t hear the engine note, it’d ‘feel’ the same!! ;)

600s are just SOOOOOO much more powerful than an SV, sure a lot of it is at the top end, but as they produce so much, although the weaker part of its power curve, its not like they are actually weak …

There are two major things you are forgetting. The SV engine is around 5 years older than your R6 engine. The SV engine isnt tuned... Its not even anywhere near the state of tune that your R6 was stock. Its like compairing a Mitsubishi Evo Rally car with a 2L ford Focus. :p

The thing with V's vs IL4's is that back in the 2000's it was true when compairing the TL's with the GSXR's. The thing is that there isnt as much money gone into making the V's powerful and the IL4's have just been updated every 2 years. It doesnt really apply anymore because the R&D spend on IL4's now must be in the 100,000x that of the V-twins. :( Poor V-twins.

I have a mate who spends half his life on the track and he much prefers the R6 over the R1. I've ridden a R1 that was a few years old and really liked it. Yes the R6 is enough for the roads and even track, but i still want a R1. I'm not sure i can justify it more than that. :)

It would be nice to have more power(although i'm in danger of losing my license as it is), but i fell in love with the 2007 red/white/black R1.

Madness I say. Though I gotto admit Id have a RSV-R or a 1098 or a R8. :D But the insurer's would no doubt give me the :smt098. :(

I'm pretty sure Blues R6 is a carbed model, therefore the engine isn't that new.

But yes i agree with you, IL4s are better. ;):p

I like the RSV(factory) and the 1098 but rightly or wrongly i wouldn't have one as i don't trust the Italians. :D

Yes it is a carby job, the R6 was first out on the market in 98 (motor only changed in 03), the SV was 99 (motor only changed in 03) right?? ;)

I was actually pointing out the fact that my bike was tuned - and that would be to the detriment of the curve - admittedly my tuner is a wily bloke managed to get more top end without sacrificing too much of the lower end/mid, but I'd actually expect a stock bike to have more low-end grunt than my tuned motor? Wouldn't you?

Digs out one of my fave pics here she is 8) #49 she is/was a carby job 4 sure :)

This is my tuners website (http://www.seton-tuning.co.uk/home.html)... as an MRO Supersport 600 Champion himself, he knows a thing or two about building a good motor and riding a bike!! ;)

I think the whole "IL4s have no midrange" thing comes from the fact that power feels relative, the big rush of power you get as the engine gets up on the cams makes the low and mids feel weak.
(I still wouldn't have a new sportbike though, it'd have to be an EXUP or an oil boiling gixxer, not just a characterless lump :-P)
Just my 2p.

That is exactly the point I am making, cheers Chris; they actually have stacks of low down grunt and torque, its just they have so much at the top its easy to forget they are still producing a healthy amount low down ;)

Take the stickers off of all the new SS bikes and you're hard pressed to tell the difference. Not my cup of tea at all.

LMAO. That has to be stinky bait. :)

I think design wise the current crop of ss600 are really individual, not similar at all.

I agree wih Blue, the new R6 is the best looking. I wasn't that keen on the angular shape initially, but it has grown on me.

4 sure, not everyone wants a SS600, but it makes me laugh when people ignorantly say they are carp as they have no midrange, where as their lovely SV has!! ... as demonstrated there is little if no difference between the two all the way through the SVs rev range!! ;)

I too prefer the sound of the SV (but then I love the sound of a 600 being punished too 8) ), I actually find SS600s frustrating on the road. I have very little self control and a bike with that much power and agility makes me do bad things!! :smt077

The SV is great, it has enough oomph to give you giggles, yet is a practical commuter and its chassis and power by virtue limit silly behaviour to more sensible levels too 8)

I had a good proper look at all the 600s recently and the difference between them is as diverse ever. If there were 4 650 twins on sale and 1 IL4 then would the SV become characterless? No, of course not. The 08 CBR and R6 are chalk and cheese as is the Zx6R next to the GSXR.

Not to derail massively, but I pick mine up in 3 hours! woohoo!

As for being the slowest - means nothing really! It's the lump that sits on the back. Only need to have a look at any of Blue's home videos (no, not those ones ) with him on a SV vs 1L IL4 for that.
