Router with port forwarding to a machine name

I'm looking for a new router which will do port forwarding to a machine name (as opposed to an IP address). I've had a few Netgear and Linksys models over the years, but they only allow you to specify an IP address.
I had a KCorp one briefly which had the feature I'm looking for, but various other aspects of it didn't work and they've ceased trading now.

Why can't you just have static IPs in your own network? Its way less risk of going wrong, faster, more reliable and would need no DNS lookups. I've never seen machine name forwarding, mainly because it would be painfully slow.

....I'm assuming this is for home use and you're not trying to do something like.......forward ports to a DHCP assigned IP for something you shouldn't behind a corporate firewall.....?

For a machine which moves between networks (i.e. a laptop), a static IP is just more of a fiddle. It's what I'm doing now, but I was looking for another solution.
If the router firmware was well written (i.e. it took this into consideration), there is no reason for it to be significantly slower than going to an IP address.
