View Full Version : Ride 30/03(That's WAS Sunday already gone for the retards)

Having had a quick check of the forecast, Saturday looks to be a bit cold/wet, however Sunday looks far more promising. Dry from 9-6 and above freezing overnight, with highs of 12C.
I'm not sure about route/destination, but i was thinking of heading towards Oxford then borrowing Ogdens route. Another option for a shorter run is to go Oxford>Aylesbury the twisty way and then head back south via Stoke Mandeville/Princes Risborough.
So is anyone available/up for it?

Sounds good to me Phil.
I think Tonyk said he was available as well. FGO might also be persuaded to come out to play.

What sort of time are we lookin at? 10:30 at fox's or a bit later to give you guys time from the shire? I should be free all day really so can do afternoon too if people prefer - we get an extra hour of light too!
ASM-Forever
28-03-08, 05:59 PM
I reckon the best weather will be between 11-4.
*Disclaimer- I am no Michael Fish*
I reckon(although i too am flexible)
Meet Shire 10:30> Fox's 11:00> Then go from there.
We can grab a tea/munch at Fox's if people want, although i have to say their service has become SLOW recently.
Depending on how much time we have we could tackle one of your routes Phil. :)
philbut
28-03-08, 06:08 PM
sounds good to me. we can just decide the route on the day I guess. I'll keep an eye on the forum but unless I hear different I'll be at Fox's at 11.
SV KID or UKROBUK - you up for this one?
Mark, I am a possible (again) although I haven't been able to get out kite buggying for a while so that might win. I'll have to watch the forecasts a bit closer to the time.

Cool, the more the merrier. Just dusted off the SV and remembered how much I love her (shush all you people with better bikes). i really hope the weather is good tomorrow, its been bloody ages since I got some v-twin action!
A no-show for me. I won't be getting home til about 3am and the thought of a high of 12 degrees is horrifying - after the week I've had it'd induce frostbite.
Weather looks like it's perking up mid next week though, so I'll almost certainly have the smoker out for a thrash next weekend...

Oh as a reminder the clocks go forward, so make sure you change them and arrive at the shire/fox's on time.
Unless there is firm interest(Tony/Tony/Dan) then i'm going direct to Fox's from home. :)

As long as it's dry I'm a definite to meet up at the Shire at 10:30 if okay?

Just checked the weather and it's set for light rain from 10am onwards. I'll give it a miss tomorrow. Enjoy.
That's light rain.
If it changes to heavy rain then I will pass but I think light rain will be ok as I've not been out much lately.

9-3 is meant to be clear with a bit of really light rain later on.
I'll be there! :)

Phil and myself are going to have a conference at Fox's and decide whether to tackle some twisties or Bikesafe. I'm not bothered either way as long as i get some corners in.

Bad the two Tonys and FGOs mate are definitely going to bikesafe from Fox's so you could meet them there if you want.

It was a good un after all and really nice weather. Tony - hope you and your mate got home OK. We just had a quick plate of chips at the ace and went home. I had one more go at the B4011 (and did not try to tankslap myself into a hedge like earlier today).
Will post some pictures in a bit when I've had a brew and some food.
Just had a thought lads, is this the first TV ride where we didn't loose anyone?

Hey in my defence it was garaged. It just seems it doesn't like being abandoned for 2/3 weeks.
I see i captured that bloke sexually assaulting you Phil. :D
I fitted the stomp grips and went for a quick blast and they are pretty good. I think the fact it hurts to grip hard with my ****ed knee is really helped by them. I need to go for a proper ride, but at this stage i recommend them. My mate hopped on for a blast to try them out and apparently i am a knob for not getting some for him.

Consequently am i right in saying that kerosene/paraffin is the way to go to remove the rust?
philbut
30-03-08, 09:37 PM
he picked em up at bikesafe, at the stall with me playing on the fake bike - the idea was to sit on that bike and it moved when you used the steerign so you could simulate riding and gripping the tank. The brake raised the back end too - my first endo!

I used paraffin.. worked a treat. But, I didn't oil it afterwards and it rusted again.. What a muppet!
Solution for me was a new gold chain & sprockets :-)

There was a stand selling them there for £30, which i'm not even sure was a good price. A search shows that is the RRP, oh well. :D
If you do get them make sure you get it for the right model/year as they are specific for each bike.

I use some mineral oil (so engine oil or 3-in-1) on a cloth. It comes off pretty easily. Parafin etc is for degreasing, so dont do that, as it wasnt dirty, just rusty. Once you have rubbed the oil in, just make sure it is coated all over, and that will stop the rust for next time. I find oil and a paiunt brush works well - better than chain wax at preventing rust, but will need applying more regularly.

My mission for tomorrow is to clean the chain. :)
Might as well do the whole bike as well.
Woah, steady on Mark. The sun must have got to you today.

That doesn't look like rust to me. Looks more like some gold/copper type lubricant.

If the weather's OK it will do, though I'm unlikely to take it as far as Brighton - the oil bill alone would bankrupt me.
There's a specific rideout thread as a sticky for rideout discussions. Clever eh :?: Or is that too clever for you lot to work out.
