As I'm sure you're all aware there are loads of insurance companies out there and it can be a bit confusing to a newbie. As I'm getting the quote for a 17 year old I don't expect it to be cheap but, if I'm going paying at least GBP746.54 PA for a Suzuki VanVan (125cc) on third-party, fire and theft with thatcham 1 alarm/immobiliser parked in a locked garage, I'd like to know I'm getting my money's worth!!
By the way, I have no plans of owning a VanVan. I just wanted to see what sort quotes I'd get on one! Could anyone advise any decent insurance companies please? Thanks

I don't think many will argue that Carole Nash are the best in terms of service and extras you get included in the premium, such as breakdown/legal cover/foreign cover etc.
They are sometimes a little more expensive but well worth it if you have to claim.
Also as i found out today their telesales operatives are all filthy sluts. ;)

I used gocompare and that was the cheapest quote I could find. The most expensive was something like ?2500!
Got nothing bad to say about Express Insurance, they were cheaper than Carol Nash even tho I added beakdown cover as an extra with them!
Oh and the policies with KGM have ride any bike and 30 day euro cover as standard.

In my experience those comparison websites are only good for older people. I've never had a competitive quote from any of them!

I use Carole Nash because they don't quibble about things like lower fairings, but when I had to make a claim (someone piled into the back of me, admitted it was their fault to everyone including the police) it took a year to get it resolved. They did absolutely nothing to ensure it was done speedily.

I looked at gocompare, but ended up going with the company my son is with.
A Quote have come back with a slightly higher quote, but I pay on installments & it's ended up slightly cheaper than doing the same on Gocompare.

I find if you get the best quote on the likes of gocompare, just resubmit the details in the direct insurers website as it will come out cheaper due to the added ££percentage that price comparison sites add on to the quote. Thats what I did and it worked out about £200 cheaper.
I've used Carole Nash but never again, two years to sort a claim, and that was with me hounding the solicitors they appointed.
Nash, eBike, Bennetts etc are all brokers, they place your business with the likes of Equity Red Star, Norwich Union who are the insurers.
And watch out for the so called "free" add ons. When I used Nash, the foreign cover did not include repatriation of the bike in the event of a crash only breakdown.
I now use a broker via the IAM (as a member I do get an additional discount which I reckon covers the annual membership fee) just for fully comp, I then buy overseas cover as & when I need it . It works out a lot cheaper.

I use Carole Nash, but mainly because you don't get much choice with a heavily modified bike- loads of people will conver me but so far only Biketeam, CN and Adrian Flux will actually do me a policy that reflects the mods. Everyone else will happily charge me extra for the performance mods, but then if it gets written off will give me a payout that ignores the added value
My only advice is, don't use CIA Insurance- they happily sell policies that don't do what they're supposed to, whether through incompetence or deliberately I don't know, and they were absolutely appalling at rectifying their mistake. I wouldn't use them if the cover cost a pound.

The unfortunate truth is you're going to get raped.
Been there done that.
At 17 my TZR cost me the same to insure as it did to buy. At 18 my NC23 cost half the value of the bike for the year, thats TPFT and we are talking over ?1000. I could tell you I've been with MCE, Telebikes, Premiere Choice, Swinton to name but a few underwritten by Equity Red Star or KGM but it won't really help.
Go and buy a couple of bike mags Ride, PB, TWO etc and phone every insurance company that has a number. I do this each year, it takes 1 - 2 days and depresses the hell out of me but it has to be done. Phone everyone then make a list of the best quotes. After that phone them all back asking them to beat the best quote you've got so far. Repeat until you can go no lower. At least then you've done your best (ie you got raped, but they used lube).
Good luck.
