Hi there folks , Passed my test yesterday and I am over the moon . Been riding since 1992 so it has been a long time coming . Finally went into Woods Motorcycles of Abergele today and dropped a nice big fat deposit on an SV650s`04 pointy in Blue and will be picking her up this Friday (well it`s traditional to pick females up on a Friday isn`t it ?) ....... joke by the way :D .

I can see me scouring these forums for all the Joys of SV ownership . Below is also a picture of myself actually sticking the Sold sign on my own bike :smt045

Welcome to the forums! We are genrally a freindly bunch, except around the hours of 2am and 3am, for some unexplained reason.

Have you been on CBT since 1992 then? Congratulations on the test pass, it is a very good feeling isnt it :D

I actually started out before CBT`s were even a twinkle in the eye of the Department Of Transport . You had 2 choices back in the day , do no training and Hoon about , or like myself , do a Star Rider Course wich was 9 Sundays of training with a nice big test on the final week . Prepared you for life on a bike far better than a CBT could in my humble opinion \\:D/

Thanks Kwak , I prefer the Black Framed ones myself but it`s my first big bike so I`m going to enjoy it all the same :¬)

Never mind Thursday , there`s even more nights between now and then :smt101 . I spent Ten minutes as it is bouncing up and down on the bed today (like a Ten Year old) . Pics will most certainly follow once I`ve got her home and settled in , then the Kettle goes on , pics are taken and I can stand there with a brew in my hand and that contented and satisfied look a man gets when he admires a new piece of machinery knowing the neighbours are twitching the curtains :D

It was a nickname given to me in school , I had long black hair with a strand of silver hair in it (natural of course) , we were watching a video of David Attenborough annoying some Badgers . He explained they were very nocturnal and didn`t suffer fools gladly . I looked up from what I was doing and half the class was looking at me . Apparently a school mate muttered something about it sounding just like me , so .......... long story short , that`s how I got the nickname :takeabow: .

Thanks for the warm welcome from all the others as well , greatly appreciated .

Thanks guys/gals . Cover note has arrived for Insurance , Side pods have arrived for my Arai Tour Cross so I can remove the peak (looks very streetfighterish without the peak) , MOT is happening first thing in the morning , so all going well I should be on the road around 11am . Gonna take her for a careful whiffle to mid wales and back with 2 other mates . The weather is looking good and I`m gonna need plastic surgery to remove the smile from my face :D

Somebody just mailed me asking what the Tour X looks like without the peak , so here it is , with medium Tint Visor with Black insert in it (Til I see what stance the law is like on Visors around here:) )

I am home , and all I can say is WOW . My wrists ache , my back hurts and my face hurts from smiling . 7000 rpm is interesting in the nether regions (now we know why the Laydeez like this bike ;) ) . I went from Abergele to Cerigudrydion for dinner , then back from there to Betwys for a coffee , then home to Colwyn Bay . Then I went and showed the bike off to friends and went back out on it to Betwys , over the tops past Plas-Y-Brenin but it hammered it down and was foggy so visibility left a lot to be desired , turned around and went back to the A55 via Bethesda .... quite literally crawling at 50 mph due to very poor visibility . Then home via the tunnels through Llanfairfechan / Penmaenmawr and Conwy .... that engine note made me smile like a buffoon . All in all I did 188 miles and am paying the price for it today , but WHAT A DAY .

You can see why I called it a day :(

LOL , I`m shattered , just made a coffee and can hardly hold it to my lips . One thing on the downside though , I lose sensation in my hands very quickly , too much weight pressing on that nerve in my hands that runs along the heel of the hand . I have that warm satisfied glow that you can only get from having a good day`s riding , or bumping uglies with nice lady LOL .

I think the numb hands thing is prity common with the sv as its puts alot of weight on the wrists, maybe a superbike bar conversion is the way to go, bluepetes got one on his said is made it a different bike.

Yarr, it's a common affliction (both scenarios that you mention). Cure for the first scenario is mileage (ie. live with it) + don't grip so hard + heavier bar end weights if you really suffer with it. Cure for the second scenario, there ain't no cure for that. Not that you'd want one :D

Oh, serious thought for a second. Powerball - they're great. Might help a little in the first scenario and might make you more accomplished in the second... See, I can't be serious after all.

04-04-08, 11:28 PM
Yeah I need to adapt to the bike a bit more anyway before doing anything drastic , Oh and I have a lovely view of my elbows in the mirrors too , but all that aside they are niggles I shall overcome in one form or another :)

MiniMatt
04-04-08, 11:30 PM
Chewys - does he still make 'em? Mirror extenders for the gangly armed. (aka little blobs that add an extra half inch - size does matter - to your mirror extension). They sit between the fairing and the mirror and take nothing more than 30 seconds to fit.

I know that feeling after I got back from 500 miles of NW2 but not on NW3 as I have got a comfort kit which is fantastic.

I think the numb hands thing is prity common with the sv as its puts alot of weight on the wrists, maybe a superbike bar conversion is the way to go, bluepetes got one on his said is made it a different bike.

Thats the one I have as well, I think there was another couple of bikes that also had it done on NW3 as well.

Appears he does...

+1 on this......I commute daily on my bike and do 40 mile a day, gets you used to it. Found on longer journeys (IE NW3 - 500+ miles) that I grip the tank with my knees.

You will get used to it, its always worse in the first few rides.

Whats the c"omfort kit" people are talking about?

Risers and bars instead of clip ons, naked bike bars on the faired one.

Can be a lot more comfortable, but you may find you get more wind blast,

easy, it is basicly naked bars on a faired bike.

EDIT: beaten to it by yorkie chris....

yorkie_chris
06-04-08, 12:43 PM
Yeah it's all about gripping the bike, if you're gripping the bars then it's going to adversely effect handling too.

If you can corner with just 2 fingers on the throttle then you're about right IMO.

I sit quite far back, against the step, with my toes mostly on the pegs. This for me seems to result in my weight on the bike not the bars.

xXBADGERXx
06-04-08, 12:49 PM
I tried that on the way this morning Chris , got my bum back a bit further , gripped a bit better on the tank with my thighs and relaxed off a bit more on the bars , getting there slowly and each day just gets better . Haven`t gone for a really long ride yet in one go , been breaking it down into small segments . Purchased a Pyramid Fenda Extender on the way home today seeing as my SV is covered in road grit and salt and other such Suzuki eating horrors . Gonna have a brew and clean her down and fit the Fenda Extender .
