kids are finally in bed, wife transfixed to 'most haunted'. nothing for me to do and that is when my mind starts to wander. looking back on the good old days i start to think about the first record i bought, i think it was 'town called malice' by the jam straight to #1 on release. i was bunking off school at the time, tender age of 13.
so join me on memory lane, straight on about 100 yds and left at the lights, and tell us where were you and what record in what year?:smt035

Judy in disguise - John fred and playboy band. 1968 ish I think.
Bought it off the juke box man who serviced the pub, but it had a big hole in the middle and I had to keep pushing this plastic thing into the middle.
20 years later I started buying juke boxes to put the records in, its easier.

i forgot about the big hole, we used to have a radiograme, a sideboard with a turntable that you could stack 40 singles on the centre pin and if the 3 spoke came off you'd have vinyl everywhere. great fun.Judy in disguise - John fred and playboy band. 1968 ish I think.

I think it was the 7" yellow vinyl of Therapy's "Trigger Inside", in about 1994... Bought at a record fair in Oban, when they were randomly overrun by bikes on some huge rideout. Record fairs are the best way of buying music, it's like being a hunter... Much less fun when you've actually got some money to spend though.
Vinyl's rubbish obviously, but I still love it, especially the good quality heavy discs in a proper sleeve. Gatefold 12"s or plain white demo sleeves, mmm... And let's not forget the shaped 12", can't do that with an MP3...

2 Little Boys by Rolf Harris - 1969. I was 6 & my mum went halfs with me to buy it.
I'm all embarrassed now :smt087:oops:
"Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" by Ian Dury & The Blockheads, first released November 23 1978. was the first single I bought, but the first record I had was The Beatles and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Then a "Top Of The Pops" album with Abba's "SOS" and David Bowie, "Space Oddity."
micheal jacksons thriller !
Loved that song. the guy is a legend

Both great songs though.
I guess as a kid, it was Children's TV Favourites- you know, with a womble song and the Dr Who theme and all that.
But then we got Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds after hearing a bit at my uncle's. Gave me the proper willies that did. It still one of my favourite albums (and books).
First single was Ultravox- Vienna.
10cc - I'm not in love 1975
Bought it for my girlfriend of the time Caron, and she bought a copy of the same record for me. We met in 1973 and started going out almost immediately, 8 years later Caron gave birth to our daughter, but we're no longer together. We are still the best of friends though.
Both of us still have our copy after all this time - my copy is one of my most treasured possessions for some silly reason. It was and still is 'our song'

first vinyl i ever got was a 7" from a fair in france as a prize for shooting so many baloons with an air rifle. It was rubbish elctro dance music from the early 90's. First actual album i got was Open Season by The Stubborn Allstars which is simply brilliant in about 97 when i was about 14/15. Since then ive amassed a rather silly collection of about 4,000 records and still dont care for cds. Its just a shame most of them are in storage cause i can only keep about 500 in my house at anyone time without everyone having a go at me.

oh so many memories. you look back now feel embarrased having bought what you did but they were the top 10 and they were the best. i know i sound like my dad when i say this (and i promised myself never to sound like my dad) but songs today all sound the same, rolf harris alongside dave bowie what diversity.

Blondie - Parallel Lines.
For me the raw sound of vinyl beats any mp3.....
Still got about 100 LP 12in and 10in in the loft. Can't bear to part with them, every single one tells a story......
And rumour has it its about to make a comeback.....

why don't we throw all the vinyl away, we'll never play them again because we've updated it all. its because its our link to our youth, the first kiss, the first round of drinks, the first night in a cell. as the song says 'I'd much rather be forever in blue jeans'.Blondie - Parallel Lines.

The only reason I'm reading the 'org right now rather than sat down with the other half in front of the telly is that she too is transfixed by telly for the terminally gullible. Most B0llocks or whatever they call it. Blue Peter presenters running around screaming and saying "fook" whilst "psychic conmen" pretend they're being posessed by ebil spirits.
So I read the org and get possessed by my own ebil spirits, or bourbon as it's known on the streets.
Back to the question. First vinyl. Was... Stand and Deliver by Adam and the Ants. It's a classic and you know it. You all secretly admire my superior audio credentials :D
First 7" was Have I the right by the Honeycombs and album was Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
The wife's was Careless Whisper by George Michael
Dave Edmonds Rockpile - I Hear You Knocking (70-71?)
I bought it with me birthday money - mum came with me and got upset cuz I wouldn't buy Clive Dunn's Granddad:puker:
Convoy by C.W McCall. Shall we say '76? I was 9...
So we hit the gate doing 98
I said let them truckers roll 10-4!I was only talking about that track on Friday. Spooky
Mine was Haircut 100 - Love plus one...thats where the obsessionn started...3000 12" singles later
7" Something about you - Level 42
12" Buffalo Stance - Neneh Cherry

I think that my first vinyl single was Down Under by Men At Work, somewhere around 1983. I'm into rock, so I mostly bought albums and had very few singles. From 1987, I only bought CDs and rare vinyl.
