View Full Version : Can different oil grades be mixed?
(Not for an SV) The manual says I can use semi or fully synthetic 10w/40 or 15W/50 oil but can I mix them as I don't know what is in there at the moment?

yes you can, to be on the save side I'd look to be adding 10/40 full synthetic as it'll either be the same as you have already or better, to be honest I'm surprised it'll take semi anyway.
Cheers Mark.

Let me check what I have in the garage, I was specifically advised to use it by Saltire Suzuki in Edinburgh as I couldn't find the oil used by my previous dealer, Cupar motorcycles. Back in a tick.

OK, I used to use a Valvoline 4T 10w/40, not sure if it was semi or full. I couldn't find it anywhere and didn't want to ride 60 miles to my old dealer, so I went to my new dealer to ask advise. They sold me this

and told me that Silkolene oils are specifically designed to mix with any other brand of oil, so if your not sure always buy Silkolene.
Before you rush out and buy some, we all know that you shouldn't ask a barber if you need a haircut, dealers are stealers and all that, so I'd wait for someone who knows thier oil to post an endorsement (or a flame!).
