MCN commented on it a couple of weeks ago but I was just watching the news and apparently police in North Wales (the A470 near llanrwst, specifically) have bought a horse box in which they are putting a speed camera!! I thought speed cameras were meant to be obvious, but I might be wrong. Oh wait, I am wrong, just heard "police aren't obliged to prominantly advertise their presence."
Looks like you've got to watch yourselves whilst passing any horse box parked in a lay-by.
Is it just me or does anyone else think this is a bit sneaky?!

hat really does take the mickey. Have just seen a pic in another thread about it. I thought the whole point of speed cameras were to act as a deterrant!!!

yet another reason why I will never ride in North Wales (and I love Wales btw) until that nob is removed from his office. I wonder if it's a forward facing one though? If it is, the motto is obviously to pass horse box's at warp speed so the plod inside can't read your plate ;-)

It's a really good way to further drive a wedge between otherwise fairly law abiding citizens and the police and to make people increasingly convinced that catching people speeding is more about money and 'crime' stats than safety. If you see a copper getting a shoeing a week after you've been caught speeding by one hidden in a horsebox, you're attitude is going to be 'stuff 'em, I'm not getting involved.'
Very foolish, poorly thought out short-termism in my opinion...

Very big article in the north Wales Daily Post about this. They really are doing it!
Article (http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/2008/03/31/north-wales-police-use-horsebox-to-trap-motorists-55578-20695287/)

Wonder if they were the pantomine horse uniform whilst inside.?????
or may be a pIG PEN would be more appropiate?

Thanks hovis and luckypants for the links. Just something I pinched off luckypants' link:
“As days get longer we can anticipate many more motorcyclists riding in North Wales.[...]Tragically some of these will die or some will be seriously injured and in some cases excess speed will be a significant factor in these incidents."
What a stupid thing to say?! If only some are dying 'cause of speed then surely they could try and do something to cut down the other reasons of injury/fatality.

A word of caution here, some Forces are already using a small additional camera mounted forward in their mobile enforcement vehicles to read the registrations of motorcycles that pass at excess speed.

Your 33bhp pizza-mobile can ride faster than a police radio, right? :D

I suppose the moral of the story is....always slow down for horses.....
I'm fairly sure that the number of KSI in North Wales has increased by about a third over the last few years, proving that all these cameras simply don't work.
With this horsebox full of hatred and horsesh1t in equal measure, I truly think that we can say that 'the law is an ass':joker:
