My brother was just coming home...was doing around 40 in a 30 in a car. A copper had a hand held speed gun thing...if they saw you speeding would they come after you to give you a ticket or are they able to fine you through the post using this method?
Any ideas grateful
the guns i believe only have a led display showing the speed. If he never went after your brother or there wasnt another copper hanging around the corner to catch em then i think he has got away with it

I really should slow down, there seem to be a lot of police all over the place at the moment.

I have seen some pictures from Wales - they hid in a horse carrier and were using guns to catch up speeder. On a straight road with national speed limit which is known for speeding! Money making mashine gets going again ....

it's only a reccomendation that they are visable and since N-Wales police are a law to themselves when it comes to speeding they can do what they like :smt094

Static cameras need to be visible but the mobile units can do as they pleased.

Someone posted on this site this week that they had a prosecution notice not just for the speeding but failing to stop for the officer (they didn't notice him waving him down).

They can still send a ticket through the post under certain circumstances, allow 14 days for it!

Ahh, pub talk and forums :D dontcha just love 'em? ;)
If the revenue raised from speeding fines is to be "reinvested" in "road safety" then the camera location must be visible. Speed camera partnerships operate the majority of cameras you see, these operations have been specifically set up to allow "reinvestment" and are a partnership of police, local authority and the courts. It is operations run by these partnerships that must by regulation be visible.
Speed traps/cameras however operated solely by the Police may choose to be visible (as a non visible camera only raises revenue, it doesn't actually contribute to road safety by slowing down the traffic, hence thier extensive use in :toss:'er Brunstrom's area), but Police are also free to carry out covert operations at will (as per :toss:'er Brunstrom's area).
