another shock thread sorry gsxr1000 k5/k6

what difference will ther be size ways putting a gsxr1000 k5/k6 shock into my pointy sv650???

will the total eye 2 eye length be the same as the standard sv shock

will the top and bottom mounts all be the same so its just a straight swap?

lastly how much of the battery box has 2 be chopped off? can i still keep my battery where it is etc...???

As far as i know that is the best fit. and i think the battery box has to be cut. If its a K3 you might get away with it as the subframe was higher up!

no its a late k4 bike so will probley defo need 2 cut some bits of but all i really need/want 2 no is the eye 2 eye size of the K5/K6 gsxr shock the same as the sv650 one or is the gsxr one higher or lower etc...

and plus how much is needed 2 be took of the batter box?

ryt mist out on the shock i had my eye on so still looking for one what i need 2 no is ther any difference in the height of the gsxr shocks???or will it be the same as the standard pointy shock?i dont want 2 jack the bike up or anything when putting a shock in so looking something the same height.;)

I put a GSXR600K5 shock in mine, the eye to eye length was identical. I'm sure the 1000K5/6 shock is a different length some way.

I believe that the GSXR Thou shock is a little longer than the standard pointy SV shock... there's a lot of information on this forum if you search for it.

I fitted one a few years ago, and it's certainly an improvement over the standard shock, but mostly because you have more adjustments to play with.

It's not a straight swap... firstly you will need to cut the battery box/undertray to accommodate the reservoir. Secondly, and this is important, you will need to purchase an extra bolt and nut... the standard shock is threaded at its base... but the GSXR one isn't. The bolt and nut you need are the same bolt and nut that secures the top of your standard shock. Note, that you will need to turn them around for it all to fit.

i think i may have my self sorted with a maxton shock now it's of a k1/k2 model 1000 as for sizes the 1000 shock seems 2 be the same in every way 2 the standard pointy shock eye 2 eye length is 330mm top mount is 29/30mm and the inside width of the bottom mount is 30mm as well and my pointy shock seems be the same as them sizes.

what is it you say that has 2 be turned around?
