Hi Folks,

I'm not affiliated in any way with this offer- I already have one of these (although I paid ?60 for mine!) as a spare lid and am happy with it, so just thought I'd alert people to it.

Takachi TK-30 lids only ?19.99. Before people start with the usual, "how much is your head worth?"/"you'd be mental to wear a ?20 lid", these are actually very good lids in terms of protection and won a ride award 2 years back. True, they are not the most stylish, quiet or light lids (although they are by no means particularly heavy), but they perform very well in crash tests, better than many ?100-150 ones.

Ideal if you want a cheap lid for doing your cbt/seeing if you like bikes, or for an occassional pillion rider.

I ALWAYS wear Takachi helmets. I am now on my 3rd TKC100 and they are fantastic value for money. I "road tested" one in January, I hit a fence head on at around 55 -60mph, I then proceeded to spin helplessly through some conifer trees & then got flicked back into the road. My helmet, although knackered, didnt crack only the vent part on the back of the helmet was broken. It sounds like a cliche, but it saved my life and for the grand sum of ?50. My new one, from M&P, also a TKC100 cost only ?29.99, top quality at a rock bottom price.
I have never seen the need to buy an Arai or Shoei for ?300 - ?500 all helmets pass the same test to be roadworthy & I've proved that a ?30 will save you in an accident.

I use a Takachi too, bought it for DAS and have stuck with it. Can complain at all about quality and comfort but am in the market for an Aria as the rest of my gear is 'spensive so i need a better label on my lid cause i'm shallow like that.

But anyone thinking a 20 quid lid wouldn't be worth bothering with - they are actually very good.

With the more expensive helmets they go way beyond the minimum required tests. They are also usually more comfortable, have more vents and reduced wind noise. I've had a few cheaper helmets including Caberg, Roof, FM and I now swear by Arai for the above reasons. But I am willing to give these a go.

Takachi helmets are all rebadged Nitros.

The TK30 is the equivalent of the Nitro N311-V, which came joint 6th in an independent safety/comfort test conducted by RiDE Magazine in 2005. The only helmets that beat it were Arai, Shoei and HJC, all of which cost at least five times more. The HJC scored the same on safety, but got a point more for comfort.

Those 40 quid Nitros/20 quid Takachis are proper good lids for the money.

(Guess who used to be an Area Sales Manager for Nitro helmets?)
