View Full Version : Rideout 11th of May

Anyone fancy a spin round Ayrshire and parts west of the M74 on Sunday the 11th? Reason I ask is we've probably left organising an April Rideout a bit late and that's the only Sunday I can make in May! Who's with me?

Do you have a route?
Get a route
Route, route that's all I ever hear from you people! "Ayrshire and parts west of the M74" is the route.
OK, OK, in broad strokes it's an anti clockwise circle going Glasgow - Ayr - St John's Town of Dalry - Abington - Civilisation. Shall we say of the order of 150 miles? I'll put some meat on the bones in the next day or two.
Also, this is a social event, all welcome. Hooners at the front, bimblers at the back, in betweeners, er, in between and everybody happy :D. I shall be calling for a Tail End Charlie or Charlies later so stand by your beds.

A sucidal sheep, one boy racer came flying round a corner on my side of the road on the way down the hill from Knockhill, and I turned my bike into a kangaroo, other than that a great ride.
More about that Kangaroo, when I bought the SV I notched up the preload front and back. I've been on a diet, lost 22 pounds since mid January and I felt my suspension was getting a bit too hard, so I put the preload back to the standard settings. It was OK when the shock was new, but after 12000 miles, the bike just turned into a handling liability, threatening to bounce me out of the saddle on every bumpy corner. Stopped at the first opportunity and set it back. Anyone else found this or is my shock knackered?

Scratch that, my friend who we will be visiting in Mexico is buying a new G650 X-country, so he won't sell his old bike until after our visit, so I'll be getting his Honda NX400 Falcon. So I don't need to rent the DR650 and I'll have the bike at my disposal for a full two weeks!

Hmmm, just searched for a review of this bike and the first google result was this!
http://www.reviewcentre.com/review190467.html
It has 28bhp so some wringing of it's neck may be in order, but I don't need to be going fast in a place where the drivers are trying to kill you and the traffic includes stray donkeys and goats!

It'll be more than 22lbs in another 4 weeks matey!! :-D Weight Watchers ain't just for girls you know! I'll be able to join the Chippendales I tell you! ;) Next rideout you'll all be saying "who the hell is that riding Ralph's bike?"

At this rate, you'd be best off cracking open a packet of tights in the harley belt-drive stylee. I'd reckon fishnets will give better torque transfer on the sprockets. :laughat:
