Sqeaking Rear Brake

Recently it appears my rear brake is being rather noisy when applied even gently

front is fine

I read something about this hear but only one reply saying applying the brake a lot will get rid of it for a couple of weeks but then it will come back. It also said about town riding... but i dont do much of that, been mainly motorway this winter just to get to and from home. and even when pootling around i dont use the breaks much just use the engine

any ideas on what it is and what to do?

oh i recently gave the bike a good clean over, didnt use any disc brake cleaner though, just water, which doesnt seem to have helped but it was there before this anyway

Rear Curvy SV calipers are prone to seizing apparently, might be worth taking it off and giving it a good clean/service.

I had the same issue as this on the rear of my pointy. I knew the pads were getting a little low anyway, so I went & changed the pads, didn't bother with stipping the calipers, but I did push the piston out a little & cleaned it as much as I could.

Then pushed the piston back in so the caliper would fit over the disc with the new pads, and bingo, noise gone. :)

I would always advise stripping the calipers completely, and using rubber grease on the seals, copperslip on metal and bolts.

Pushing the pads back if they've got crap on them will just push any abrasive stuff past the fluid seal, not good.

If you don't want to strip the lot, then pump them out, clean them off as best you can and push them back in with some rubber grease on.

If you do this and the dust seal pops out with the piston then there's no 2 ways about it you'll have to strip it properly.

is this dismantling the calipers a dodgy job for not a handfisted, but a clueless, individual?

i always worry about messing things up and then having to result in paying to get someone to fix it up
