Had the same problem last week with my youngest leaving a trail of oil/grease from the push bike across the carpet

Reached for some Hein Gericke motorcycle cleaner, gave it a few sprays, left a minute or two and it came up like new . Result

Re-arrange the furniture. Or buy a rug. :D

+1. If you don't have some, go out and get them. They can take anything off anything! Christ knows what they are doing to the wean's *rse...

Laminate Flooring :)
I did exactly the same thing, walked straight through the living room with that horrible black gunky stuff that builds up around the front sprocket on the base of my shoes. I couldn't shift it with anything I had in the house, so decided I didn't like the carpet anyway.
Love the new laminate :) quick mop over & job done

Do nothing

Leave home and join the Foreign Legion before wife/girlfriend/mother get home as none of your explanations or attempts to solve the problem will be acceptable ;)

Kitchen towel + an iron on low heat. It got oil out of my carpet.
You need to be careful though, I also melted the carpet....then moved the furniture. So maybe only try it as a last resort.
