View Full Version : How do oxford throwovers fit on a naked curvey?
Anyone got any pics of throw over panniers on a K1? I'm going for a few days to Normandy on Thursday and only now have I got round to seeing how to fit some Oxford throws that I've borrowed. I don't really need them for this trip but I will need something for a 10 day tour of France and Spain I'm doing from May 23rd.
They seem to foul on my standard rear indicators. :(
Thanks :-s
i did not like them, so i managed with a tail pack.
i have yellow panniers, yellow tankbag or black tailpack if your stuck for luggage
if you dont need a tent, i would think you could manage with just a tailpack
Got pics at home I can post if you still need 'em later.
The 2 thin velco straps go over the top of the pillion seat and the thick one goes under. Then using the bugees, I usually make an X with 'em underneath - corner of one side to opposite corner of the other (does that make sense?)
This is how i do it (I know that the panniers vary, i have an old 2 strap set) but i take it that you have two straps that go from pannier to pannier? If so
Remove pillion seat
Attach the panniers together with one strap going behind the grab rail and one over the open area where the seat is.
Then replace seat and use the bungie cords to stop them form flapping about.
This i found as a very strong and firm way of holding them. Dont forget to put your stuff in bin liners inside the panniers.

And put stuff over the paintwork. My backend (oo-er) had the paint removed by the oxford panniers on their first run. Not a happy bunny on a month old bike.

Gaffer tape works best.
Use a rag dipped in petrol to wipe off the sticky stuff it leaves behind when you peel it off.

They ripped to shreds on mine - and then held the rain in soaking all my kit.
I'd go for tank/tail combo
Thanks for all your replies. Most helpful.. Thanks for your offer Hovis.. The black tailpack would go over the pillion so I can (I know I am gonna regret saying this) use my 46L givi topbox as well?. If so then the double bagster, tailpack, and topbox would do great for my longer france/spain trip. I am getting so damn excited about this .. heheheh!
just give me a shout if you need it
Instead of masking tape or electricians tape you can but the rubberised mesh for under rugs on slippy floors. it words a treat and there's no residues afterwards. Only cost about a quid for a square meter and you can use it more than once.
