Boss phoned me at home today, told me I got a pay rise.

Even he said it is never enough. But when the tax man takes his slice, makes me want to cry.

Gas, electricity, petrol, rates etc all go up by greater than inflation. Why do I never get an inflation busting pay rise.

At least you got one mate. Big up to you. No payrise for me despite getting rated over my stated goals (every year since I was transferred in) as I am paid 'above market rate for my job group' - it's all bollox.

Because pay rises are the cause of inflation, at least so says president Brown. Nothing to with eye watering tax rises year upon year, oh no.

Mine was inflation busting rise this year..........22% increase but that only illustrates how little i have been getting paid (, because i have been completely underpaid for the past 2 years anyway

Same here - I got a 25% payrise this year - one and only time I can see that happening! Still it got me out of the bottom feeder pay range I was in!

There are exceptions, but the best way to get significant rise in salary for most people is to take/get a new job ..

But that does require you do something about it! :D

Ah you lucky fella. In these times its a good thing. IMF just released figures saying doom and gloom... expect 10-20% drop in house prices blah blah blah...

Being self employed I am getting a pay cut this year of around 50% due to the Euro strengthening against the pound.... :compcrash:

I would still leave - why did you suddenly become worth being paid more?

They should pay the correct amount to start with :)

I took the job knowing it was underpaid but had good prospects - 150 users/5 servers/3 sites around the country and just me to look after it all :)

+1

exactley the same for me, it was a good stepping stone, I didnt have much but knew this would lead to good things and good money whether I had to leave after getting experience or bargain with them at a later date for the correct wage.

Worked well in the end.........i could still do with a better car though :(

Amazing isn't it, managers can be so stupid.

I just changed jobs, where I came from everyone was leaving for more money. Management might have 'saved' money for a little while, but they're gonna lose all that when they have to stump up even more than we were asking to attract replacements. New staff also often come through an agent, so agency fees on top mean their new staff will cost them a fortune, just for not paying the going rate in the first place.

Would love to get a significant pay rise, but a new job is not an option as :-

1) they may expect me to actually work
2) After 25 years with the same company. I am that tied into the pension scheme that even a good pay rise may not offset the future pension losses

TBH, I used to be on a good salary. But for the last 10 years I have had no promotions and to tell the truth do a lesser job than I did 10 years ago. So since then I have been having inflation+1% type rises. Colleagues are catching me up as I no longer have the justification of maintaining margins etc.

Point 2 is what the company know, they know I am not going to spit my dummy and walk. They know that I expect to work from home. Get paid for what I can do when the smelly stuff hits the blades and am kept away from end lusers and other low lifes as I don't do polite and tolerant.
