View Full Version : Have to admit...I'm a bit scared
reason being that my gf on Sunday evening became ill with severe stomach ache. Ended up in hospital on Monday early morning and was discharged by lunch time. They couldn't tell exactly what it is but might be too much acid in her stomach.....went back Monday night for a short visit as she was in pain again.
Now its Wednesday evening and she is on painkillers and anti-throw up pills. From what she tells me the pain now only comes and goes now and then but because of the pills she is sleeping most of the time.
I cannot keep seeing her like this:( and the fact that she is always sleeping and not telling me how better she is ain't helping either :(
I know it could be ulcer although unlikely according to the docs but can someone please come and make her well? Cannot bare seeing her like this for much longer!!!!
Really sorry to Hear C is not well, Moses:(
I would have thought she was too young for an ulcer, but it can happen. The fact that the doctors have ruled that out at the moment doesn't mean they won't pursue that if the pain continues.
Give her a hug from us, won't you.
Cheers Lisa - I am at her side all day long, hugging her kissing her dunno I just hope it will make her better but it's the first time in my life I feel so scared!!!

Sorry to hear she is not well.
Does the pain only come after eating and then die down a little after about an hour or so?? then back again after eating again?
I only ask as I had simlar severe stomac pain and was told by hospital the same thing, too much acid or ulcer but it was infact Gaul Stones (sp) and was triggered after I ate.
GWS wishes for your Girlfriend
EDIT: just re-read, didn't realise your still at the hospital, I'll wind my neck in.
we're not in hospital - we are at home since Monday - only stayed in hospital for 3-4 hrs
she doesn't really eat because she then throws up

sorry to hear this, hope she starts to fel better soon. if it's till troubling her this much i'd say another trip back to the docs is required? n ask em to be more thourough
unless they put a camera down her throat there is not much they can tell......and doing this now wouldn't make things any better.
I have asked them to do specific tests which they did and all came back OK..........I guess it's a matter of time. to just wait and see

Sorry to read this and also sorry that you`re quite obviously so worried and upset. I have to admit from the symptoms it does sound a bit like gallstones. If the pain gets too bad go back to A and E and if the nausea tablets are causing her to be so sleepy get the GP to change to another type. Which tablet is she on by the way cos it is unusual for them to cause people to sleep that much unless its a particular one called Nozinan. Maybe this is a viral thing which would explain the excessive sleeping.
Hope she gets well soon hun... big hug to you both
they did x-rays in her chest and tummy which I would suppose would have shown anything like gallstones. also blood tests that came back clean.
she is on co-codamol pain killers and semetil anti nausea tablets - both cause drowsiness so i think the combination makes u sleep. at the same time while she is sleeping the day goes by and she doesn't notice it that much.
it's only me going back and forth looking at her lying in bed with her eyes closed.
last night though it was a better night. she missed one dose of painkillers cause she didn't feel that bad and she said she slept better.

Glad to hear she`s had a better night... reducing the painkillers always a good sign. Sounds like she might be quite sensitive to the Stemetil cos they don`t normally cause that amount of sleepiness or as you say the co-dydramol. Just a thought but quite a lot of people get nausea whilst taking co-dydramol..... worth maybe taking note if the nausea reduces if she misses out that dose again

Just came back from what has been the longest days in my life from hospital.
Unfortunately C deteriorated last night early hours of this morning and we had to call an ambulance and take her to hospital. I obviously went with her and she is now in surgery....visiting hours finished at 8pm so had to leave against my will and a bit later on she was taken to theater.
Speedy_Claire thnx for the info on medication! It really helped me!!! I'm now agonising waiting for a phone call from the hospital when she is out of surgery.
After that there will be a 1 week in hospital and a further 3-4 weeks taking it easy :(
Is her b'day on the 24th of this month........what a present she got hey???!!! :(
At least she will be ok......and once again I've proved to myself that i'm not good with hospitals.......so if you see me going into one challenge me........must be by mistake!

I am not a Doctor and obviously have no idea what is wrong with yer g/f.
Saw your thread originally and decided not to post, but given that things do seem to have progressed.......and as I have had a bit of recent similar experiances (Missus and Brother) neither of which ended well......I would say that you / her next of kin need to TALK to the Doctors and fully understand what they are looking at and why and also what they are not looking at (including yet).......also how / when they will be sure their diagnosis is correct and what the plans are - including for possibilities yer do not want to think about.
Obviously does need to be done in a constructive manner - you want the Doctors to help - but it is also good to let them to know that folk are interested in the patient - Doctors are humans, so good, bad and lazy in any job, having folk interested / looking over their shoulder is a motivator to do things properly - Also don't be afraid of going down the second opinion route.
Despite what is portrayed on TV (and some Doctors portray themselves) Doctors and Hospitals do not have magical powers to immediately and definatively understand what is wrong with someone - a pain in the stomach can be a symptom of a dodgy curry or part of a long list of stuff I would struggle to spell........The Doctors essentially work through a list of the most likely things (given the symptoms) - they are not going to start looking at Avian Flu or Cancers when their are more likely things to exclude first.
"a Pain in the stomach" is not a diagnosis on which treatment of the underlying cause can be based - it's a symptom that can be alleviated by treatment - but yer still need to know what the cause is.
Hope things go well - odds are that it will, but deliberately not knowing stuff doesn't stop the bad things happening.

Sorry to hear this, GWS C!!
I was reading through this and thinking 'Khrons' - only because it sounds very similar to what a good friend of mine went through a few years ago...
... but as has been said - the digestive system is a very misleading thing and sooooo many problems can all have the same initial symptoms - so here's hoping for the best and that it's all sorted now and she's on the mend.
Thank you all for your posts and wishes. I spoke to the hospital at 3:30am and she was out of surgery and all went very well........details when I see the surgeon.
Yesterday when we were admitted to hospital again (in the early morning) they did another set of x-rays that showed her upper bowel (spelling) being blocked. Basically the walls of the bowel had stuck together. This is something that happens if you have had surgery before and as they move the bowels out of the way it can happen.
What that means is that the food doesn't pass the stomach and stays in there which in the end you throw up as it has nowhere to go. You don't fart, it builds up air pressure in the stomach and all in all creates this sort of situation. The blood tests showed she was a bit dehydrated (expected) and everything else was normal.
She was seen by 5 different doctors, 1 A&E, 2 Gastroenterologists and 2 Surgeons. All after seeing the x-rays came to the same conclusion. This was not obvious on the x-rays done on Monday.
I spoke to the hospital again this morning and she had a good nights sleep and she didn't complain of pain......she is obviously on strong painkillers :)
Quiff - last night had some food myself at last:) Very nice big steak and her parents will be here late lunch time. I'll be as strong as I need to be to see her get well....this is not just any girlfriend:) This is the name of happiness and love in my life!!
Thank you all again for your posts, sms's and calls. They are truly very much appreciated!!
