View Full Version : Restriction + Exhaust Question
As some of you might know I get my first bike on Monday (allbeit restricted!).
Are there any issues with fitting an aftermarket zaust onto a restricted bike? Any issues with fueling and such like?
Thanks for the help guys.

Fit a slip-on can and you will have no problem with either, its full systems that have these issues applicable.
Thanks for the quick response!
I guess the rumours are true about having to cut the original can off? Does this cause any problems if I wanted to put the original back on?
Sorry these questions seem abit dumb, but we are all here to learn ; )

No some cans come with a sleeve (a piece of tube) which will fit over the section of pipe you have cut and clamp in place with exhaust clamps. If you don't get one with the can you can get them off ebay, i'll post a link in a mo.
Update - There isn't one on ebay by itself at the moment but you can see the sleeve in this pic next to a OEM curvy can.

How far would I know how to cut? Or would I just figure this out with the sleeve?
Any exhaust recommendations? (I understand I don't have my bike yet but just making plans for payday at the end of the month!!)

Getting a curvey on Monday. Well, it should be ready for this weekend but me being me got my insurance to start from Sunday/Monday night. :|.
What recomendation for type of exhaust? I've read good stuff about laser cans. My father has a pair of akra's on his R1 but akra's are a little pricey!

Getting a curvey
Good choice, getting an S or an N and what colour???
Fuel (http://www.fuelexhausts.com/index.cfm), CCC (http://www.carboncan.co.uk/), Laser (http://www.laserexhausts.co.uk/), Scorpion (http://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/Bikes/index.php), Remus (http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MCYCLE&pcode=R/M1103855006), Quill (http://www.quillexhausts.com/), Blueflame (http://www.blueflameperformance.com/bike/evo_race_cans.asp), etc...
They are all good cans really, you'll be better off getting one of the removable baffle type cans in my opinion. Laser is a half system so no cutting required, you replace everything except the front down pipe, should get away with that on a restriction.

for price i personally would go for fuel they sound pretty sweet, there are a few makes around the same price as the fuel cans, i think beowulf are around the same price
EDIT: beaten bye the almighty dave
Getting an S (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=107884) :).
I quite like the blueflame dual port can. On the Blueflame site it is advertised as "SV650 (cut system)". Does this mean that it would come with the sleeve or not?
I really do appreciate the help!
On a slight side note, last night in the pub i persuaded two of my mates to do there bike test and that's before they have even seen my bike! :D

Email Blueflame for a definite answer, been along time since I used them but they are better now apparently.
Nice bike (just clicked your link) your getting the right colour too, well almost it needs to be the early yellow but i'll let you off! ;)
Thanks for the help guys. Just another quickie!
Will a new exhaust make much of a difference to the sound? My father claims that because it is restricted it won't do but I fail to believe him!
Again, thanks for the help. It's really appreciated!

Oh, yeah... you'll get that lovely V-twin burble, and its the frist mod any SV owner should do! Its the power that is restricted, not the noise.

I stuck a fuel on my 99 restricted curvy.
Its made it better! Used to get some messy fueling around 4000 rpm, its gone now.
