View Full Version : Nerves - talk about making them worse!!!
So I'm already nervous about running my first marathon and have injuries everywhere, so my nerves are getting worse by the minute.
Add to that the fact that I work in the National Maritime Museum and thus Greenwich Park where I can see out of my window the preperations for the Marathon taking place making me yet more nervous.....
Then I get in this morning and find a member of my staff doing a sweepstake on my finish time (not for my charity either). Where people have put some really silly times on, I wouldn't mind they know I'm a little fat bloke.
NOW I AM REALLY NERVOUS!!!
There was someone preparing for this at the gym yesterday, they had been on the cross trainer 4hrs when i left.........
Good luck. I am full of admiration.

Relax!! You'll be fine. You've trained for it, keep the faith! Jut don't get carried away at the start, don't set off too quick, don't be intimidated by everyone else's herd instinct.
Enjoy it. There's nothing quite as special as a first marathon. You'll be in tears at the end as you cross the line. Guaranteed.

what sort of time are you aiming at? have you done anything like this before ?
Just nosey :smt102, used to be my thing (well a lifetime ago anyway).
Cheers Mark.
Mark - It's my first one, have been running since late December 2006 to, curiously, help my bad back. Have done a few half's and a few 10k's. If I'm honest I'll be dissappointed if I don't run under 4:30, but don't tell anyone. I am by no means a 'Runner' though. Oddly enough for the first time since I started running my bad back is back with a vengeance since last week.
ED - I went to the Expo yesterday to pick up my number and when I got off of the DLR, the bridge had flora/vittel banners eveywhere which got me really excited then in the actual hall there was an Adidas 'Impossible is nothing' wall with people writing messages and I got a bit choked up when I wrote mine, as I am running for the stroke association and it is very personal to me...........
As long as I get to the end and know I have nothing more to give I will be satisfied with myself and whatever time I achieve.

Well good Luck, best advice I can offer is forget the physical stuff now, it's to late to make any difference, the mental toughness is what you should be concentraiting on, the mind can make the body do things beyond it's limits.
Once again good luck, enjoy the challange.
Cheers Mark.

I think once that klaxon goes off and your on your way you'll remember exactly what it is you've been training for all this time and before you know it you'll have finished! :D

I admire you for doing it... very best of luck and i`m sure you`re gonna be fine. The guy I work with does the marathon every year but has had to pull out this year due to injury. Atmosphere there on the day must be fantastic! Good luck
