View Full Version : I would like to report one of your Officers
I was recently driving in my car when a black fiesta in the outer lane to me blew his horn and motioned to me to hang up my phone.
(now I drive very rarely & use a mobile almost never, so waste your breath flaming me if you want, but on this occasion I wanted to. The car is an automatic so arguably i would not be anymore short of a spare hand than someone in a manual using a handsfree - I agree that the act of being on the phone is the distraction, but that is not what's illegal)
Anyway on to the story - I put the phone down for a bit then carried on with my phone conversation. A long time later the same car pulls along side me & the driver identifies himself as a Police Office showing me his badge (in a wallet) he then proceeds to drive off on his merry way at speeds (on my speedo) of 90-95mph.
So is that a very good example to set? Should I report him?

If you report him, you'd have to admit that you were driving whilst on the phone. They could then take you to court where you could be fined up to £1000 and get points on your licence.
So in answer to your question, yes report him :D

For what- speeding?-no one to back your claim up, and would you then neglect to mention that this started because you were using your mobile whilst driving?-3 points and sixty bangers-nope let it go, he's probably just a new copper who still thinks that he's superman-couple of months in the job and he'll come back to normal.
All the wannabe police around here drive around in black fiesta's and silver 206's.......it was probably just one of them. At a distance you cant tell the difference between a Special Constable badge and a real one.

I think you got plod off work or too high and mighty to get involved in a traffic offence and he gave you a bit of a warning.
TBH. Consider yourself lucky. Then again he may well report your number when he gets back to the office

Stuff
Sorry Stu, but no amount of disclaiming and justification can cover the fact that you were being an Ar$3 and doing exactly what we all complain about.
Count yourself lucky you didnt get the point/fine and stop moaning.

You see I would be very receptive to a warning, no need to stop & I come away with thinking, awh aren't Police wonderful, they can tell you off in an adult manner without resorting to inconveniencing or fining me. But no, I come away thinking he's just a holier than thou nob that's driving arguably more dangerously than me & trying to tell me off:rolleyes:
Reporting him was not going to happen. I'm sure there's nothing he can do now if he didn't stop me at the time (unless I made an issue of it)
I have sent a copy of this thread to my mate whos a copper, He'll be in touch soon ;)
stu, you were lucky not to get fined/points etc.
i would leave it at that.
and dont do it again

+1, sounds like a case of sour grapes for getting caught with your pants down sorry!
if somone phones me whist driving, i put it on speakerphone, and put the phone on the dash.
dunno if this is ok though
I just don't get why people can't justify 30 quid or so on a wireless headset, or £100 on a proper handsfree kit.
Hovis - putting your phone on speaker as I understand it wouldn't be acceptable as you still have to handle the phone in order to do so - unless it's in a cradle you're basically not allowed to touch the handset.
sour grapes.............pants down
:offtopic: No need to taste them! :D

You can get a bluetooth headset for under £15 these days.
Though a lot of prats in porsches don't seem to be able to afford them.
what a biker on a mobile phone ?
err... i hate people on their phones while driving, a bloody hazard......imo
count your self lucky........buddy
you should know better.....
now go and buy a hands free set....
and dont do it again...[-(
oh and about reporting him / well i was busy on my mobile phone while driving and a cheeky copper told me off / that will go down well at your local nick..
nick as in your police station, not our nick in TV site.
if you were using a phone whilst driving I think you should stop trying to justify it and ask yourself honestly why you think it's ok to risk all around you on the road for the benefit of a conversation. We're all bikers and by that I sincerely hope I mean we're a little more observant than the average car driver. Who here can't spot the driver on the mobile by his or her erratic driving and lane wandering? It's not rocket science to realise that using the phone whilst driving, regardless of the law, is more dangerous than not doing it. Please have regard for other road users by applying your concentration to driving rather than your phone.
Sorry, rant over but this subject should be a no brainer imho.
All the wannabe police around here drive around in silver 206's
Hahaha
Now that has got me proper laughing. 4 or 5 of my copper friends drive silver 206s
OK suitably chastised on the phone thing. Yes i do have a handsfree kit, but it wasn't with me.
I just hope that all you complaining that drift over the speed limit imeadiately think everytime 'Gosh I got away without a £60 fine and 3 points there that was lucky'

The problems is that all the people who moan about people on their phones are probably the same people who moan about all the other 'H&S' laws that make this country an apparent 'nanny state'
Two faced and only bothered about laws when it suits or consider it to benefit them.

Slightly different when one accidentally breaks the speed limit than when one deliberately and knowingly makes or receives a non-handsfree telephone call whilst driving.
I wouldn't feel lucky if I got away with drifting over the speed limit, because it happens accidentally sometimes. However, if I choose to nail it full throttle and get away with it, damn right I think 'Glad I didn't get caught there'.

Ahhh so 2 (or more) wrongs make a right now do they?
Only multiples of thing that I know that make a right are lefts......(3 of them to be exact)
I cant believe that the law is coming down so hard on mobile phone users, and yet doing nothing about the numbtys that fiddle about with their sat nav's whilst driving ,,,, just as bad i my opinion.
Stu ... you got rumbled, and didnt get fined, count yourself lucky ... as far as his speeding .... most of them think they are a cut above their own law, who are we mere mortales to complain ... don work yourself up over it .... it is a waste of your time ;)

Ok, you're an imbecile. HTH ;)
Justifying it by saying that you rarely drive (so probably aren't that good at it anyway) doesn't really help the case matey!
Stu!
report him if;
1. you never break the speed limit!
2. You never break any other traffic laws like using mobile whilst driving:rolleyes:
practice what you preach or become a hypocrite with a chip on his shoulder...
ladies and gentlemen of the jury... I give you STU...guilty or not guilty???:D

I bet it wasn't a real copper unless maybe off duty/special who is justifiably narked with car drivers using mobiles but doesn't want to do the paperwork so gives a warning. Stu. I would feel very lucky if I was you and petty to want to get my own back.

Dead wrong there.
I hate people driving whilst on mobile phones with a passion, and will go out of my way to interrupt their phone call (eg, lots of revs & loud horn). I have also in the past given local police video evidence of people using a mobile whilst driving, which included numberplate of the vehicle and date/time. What the police did with it I don't know.
Why do I hate it so much? Put simply, if people aren't concentrating on their driving, they're more likely to hit me, or my kids walking over the crossing, or someone else's kids. If people get caught more, they will do it less.
As for H/S laws, I know of appoximately 14 seperate breaches of H/S within my company. Those that directly affected me (like wires running across the floor) have not only been reported to management, but I also stuck hazard tape on them (the money for which was out of my pocket).
As for the kettle that's in the office, again, this has trailling wires across the floor, it's on the floor itself (easy to kick, or as one guy did, put it on with your foot as you walk past it - it was empty & he fused the office!). There's also no facility to wash cups near it, which in itself is against H/S law, instead, people go to the toilets to wash cups!! Have I said a word? No. Have I done anything? Yes, I bring my own mug & take it home with me, wash it myself, and use the fully equipped kitchen down the hall.
It's one thing to complain, it's another to actively do something.
Stu, as others have said, consider yourself lucky he didn't pull you over. I've had lucky escapes over speeding.

Mobiles in cars?
Firstly you have to accept that it is always a fundamentaly dangerous activity - rather than only sometimes being dangerous. Basically just an excuse "to do something", without the hassle of having real consequences on folk for doing something dangerous.
Plus of course 1 crime detected = 1 solved.
Yeah, think of all the little babies who would die if peeps were allowed to drive using mobiles.........same could be said for wearing crash helmets in cars or restricting folk to 10mph........these would save lives.
drift over the speed limit? Not me
I choose to ignore it!!!:mrgreen::smt077:cyclopsani:
