on a duel carriageway while doing 70ish ;). saw a blur flying out across from the left tree line, the thing hit the LHS front and rolled into my left arm then disappeared!

Left a grease mark and one feather suck to paint work...

no idea if the thing lived...

I followed a guy on a TeDiuM last year when a kamikaze pheasant destroyed his fairing and ripped out the clocks. A good £600 worth. TBH I was amazed he stayed upright. My first sight was the bike in front disintegrating before my eyes and a huge lump flying through the air.

I got pelted with plastic ,blood, guts and feathers. But at least my damage washed off. I followed him with a smashed up bike for a mile into a car park to check he was all right. He said he was. but I know if it was me I would have been crying and trying to work out how to tell the wife that her holiday was off.

Personally I have been hit with woody's twice. Big fat ones that want to knock your head off. First time I bought a new lid. second time I thought sod it and cleaned it.

But both times not enough woody left to give a couple of nice breasts as an appetizer. poached with a bit of red wine and served with a few juniper berries on a slice of brioche bread with a few proper mushies

Pheasants must be kamikazi birds. I had one do exactly the same to me years back, I had a headache for 3 days after :(

sounds like you got off lightly there lucas - years ago I headbutted a pigeon and dropped my bike, and i seem to recall Supervox getting some bird guts wedged into his fairing and cooking on the engine a while ago...

Thanks, thinking back I was very lucky only to pick up a feather and greasy marks during this brief meeting with wildlife. [-o<

From seeing the blur, hearing the knock and feeling the impact as the bird thing hit my SV at 80 and then tumbling into my arm and knocking it of the LH bars (could be worst if it was the RH...), sending SV and myself into a unnerving wobble, felt like a life time, all happen in seconds... :shaking:

By the sound of everyone experiences, these birds are as accurate as those ‘javelin missiles’ at a faction of the cost. The army should consider training these birds instead and save tax payer’s money, oh, and its organic too! ;)

yum, grilled venison with road salt, fresh off a SV radiator :chef:

A few years back a rabbit took a dive under the front wheel of my old RS250 - just as I was swinging it into a sharp bend. I was off and sliding on my **** in about a nanosecond - mangled fairings and a bent fork to boot.

I had a bird hit my radiator (unfaired bike). All the guts were lodged into the fins and everything, it was a nightmare to get out.

lol yeah but wasn`t funny at the time!

A pheasant hit me whilst I was doing about 80mph on some country lanes. It knocked me out cold and I ended up in a 10 foot ditch which my CBR600 which was written off as a result. I ended up with 3 broken ribs, a disclocated knee and damaged my hip/pelvis. I was really lucky tho as had I not been knocked out and therefore not so relaxed when i landed the medics said I could`ve been killed or at least a suffered a broken back :(

How does the points system work?

:smt115

Wildlife in weight: 1 point per 100g

or

Wildlife size:

10 points - small airborne i.e. Robin

8 points - average airborne i.e. Pigeon

6 points - large airborne i.e. Wood pigeon

4 points - small land animals i.e. Badger/fox

2 points - average land animals i.e. Dear/cow/sheep

0 points - large Four land animals i.e. Elephant

I didn't think this was a competition:confused: I only put the photo up because its title should be 'sh!!t happens'...literally. I was lucky, cause believe me it felt like I'd hit been hit by a ten tonne truck, I was lucky I stayed on.......now as for Claire, shes lucky to be alive too, but in all honesty I think shes a superstar as she really had some serious damge to herself, and got the courage to get back on the bike....if she hadn't been knocked unconcious by the pheasant plucker....well lets just say shes a very lucky lady........
GIRLS they really don't do things by halves:-P

LMFAO , well my one was strange . I was late for college years ago and nearby is a shortcut but a very twisty one . I had a Stan Stephens Stage III Tuned TZR125 at the time and it was a missile . I`d just come out of a series of flickable bends and opened the throttle . At the same time a Wood Pheasant was doing it`s "Famous Grouse" advert impression and taking it`s time to cross the road (can almost hear the music here :D) . It looked at me sideways through one eye and stopped , I jinked left , it moved in front of me , I jinked right , it moved in front of me , I yelled "GEDDOUDDABLADDYWAYYYY!!!" , and it dived under my fairing . There was a thud , back wheel left the ground by about a foot , a funny grinding noise and then all was calm , bike steadied itself and I carried on to college .
The first break came at about 11 and I went outside to survey the damage , there were guts adhered to the radiator and that was about it so thought "not bad really" . Then came the ride home .... IT PONGED and I had to literally lift my nose in a 30mph to stop gagging , it got worse as the days went by and come Sunday I found out why .
The trail of maggots coming from my belly pan gave me the first clue and as I looked into the fairing lowers there he was , big fat pheasant crammed right in there , decomposing nicely . I had a black binbag over one arm and whittled it out , wretching like a puppy . The thought still makes me gip now .

Yuck Badger, that's foul! Sounds like one suicidal pheasant! They're a bit too slow for their own good anyway but he was clearly just being awkward :p

xXBADGERXx
11-04-08, 09:51 PM
He only got one chance at being awkward with me LOL . A few months later I ran over a trail of shrews all following each other in a line in the road . There was a series of wet crunchy squeeks and my Metzeler ME51`s had a lovely furry Zig-Zag pattern in the centre of the tread .

Well if it`s any consolation , I didn`t aim for them , I was cornering at the time and had no chance to manouver without causing myself to have an accident , I`m the kind of person that thinks every animal has a place and a reason in this world and won`t harm any intentionally .

At least no orphans were left and nobody starved to death in that family :/

Lol don't worry I certainly wasn't accusing you! If everyone got upset about roadkill noone would ever go anywhere or if they did at VERY slow speeds! It's just very unfortunate that's all.

Oh it wasn`t taken as accusation , just stating that I feel very bad when animals are harmed , now as far as human beings go , I could quite gladly kick some people to death sometimes , especially my neighbour :D

I hit a stupid as pheasant after coming round a bend, the ******* walked slowly across the road, heard my horn, looked at me, walked a little bit towards the middle of the road and then took off, bounced off my fairing and mirror and my shoulder- glad I got away unscathed though! Can't wait for summer and wasps in the helmet :(

and a shrews place is 1 rung off the bottom of the food chain - average life expectancy in the wild about 4 weeks - if my uni zoology modules serve me right.

Think of it as giving natural selection a helping hand :p (no creationists here I hope?)

U did/doing zoology? I think they live about 2 years but even so, not exactly very long.

Average Life expectancy he was on about , ie . other hungry things around with sharp pointy teeth , kinda brings the odds down a bit .... and TZR`s going like stink around the bends doesn`t help matters either :D

Marine Biology - but it shares some modules with zoology obviously.

They have the capacity to live for a few years - just not many make it that far as they are considered so yummy by - well pretty much everything with sharp pointy teeth or a beak

Old thread I know...

A couple of years ago I encountered two wedge tailed eagles while exiting a corner at 70mph. I tickled the first and clobbered the second in the face (she broke my visor) as they scrambled to get airborne. The second bird survived but was injured. Ever tried to subdue an injured and very angry 6ft (span) bird of prey? Half an hour later I had her wrapped up in a towel plus a roll of duct tape, strapped her to my top bag and carted her off to a local wildlife carer where she has chosen to stay.

Earlier this year I was blind sided by an emu that I never saw coming. I woke up a day later in hospital and only know what was in the witness statements. The bike was totalled (klr) and buggered if I know how I survived it with little more than a concussion.

I have had a few other hits over the years. Amongst the feathery ones was a tawny frog mouth (owl like nocturnal bird), a few galahs and corellas (cockatoos - they breed like rabbits in some parts), bats and quite a few slow and incredibly stupid dove like birds. One thing that they have all had in common is that they hurt like hell.

Anyway, first post. I am seriously considering buying a new SV650 (shortlist of one) in the new year and dropped in here to see what people are doing with suspension and tyres on these bikes. I couldn't resist this thread.

Cheers

Dunno if it is an urban myth, but for game I always understood you couldn't eat it. The guy behind can stop and pick it up as it is then road kill, but the person who actually hits it can't benefit from the accident.

Living in the countryside I had my share of animal attacks travelling to work early mornings seems to be the worst time for these.

Heading to work one Saturday a few years ago a full grown deer jumped 'over the hedge' and landed square on the bonnet of my Mini. Deer was buggered up and the Mini was out of action.

Farmer travelling behind me put the beast out of it's misery and hung it in his barn for me to pick up later (thought i would at least get a meal out of it).

Travelling to work the very next morning on a Honda C90 'stepthru' borrowed from my sister another deer slithered alongside me for about 20 yards on sheet black ice, before taking me out again, then disappearing. Double Bugger! :smt013

Take care out there .... Off for a wee run on the SV before the Road Tax runs out!! :)

"Galah" is also used (but in decline) colloquially to mean a fool or an idiot but is less likely to cause offence. When watching the (hysterical) behaviour of these birds it is easy to see how that meaning came about although I like to think of the behaviour as revelry.

Merry Christmas everyone.
