so i was meant to spend the week end stripping down the bike a generally chaving it up,

so 1st things 1st remove the old crappy tank pad (yeah you guessed it:rolleyes:) so i get the heat gun and peeled off the pad itself, then got rid of the glue, then another clear film layer :confused:, but now I've got that off there is a solid glue outline of the old pad. some of it I've managed to get off with a credit card but i cant get the rest off, I've tried white spirit, t-cut and reluctantly thinners! and the crap still wont come off :smt088

anyone else know what i can try, it was a technosel (spelling) pad and looks as thought it's been on there since the bike was new.

When I took the Suzuki warning stickers off (different problem to yours admittedly), I used WD$0 to 'soften' the glue, and then used my fignernails to scrape it off..

Took ages, and I needed to reapply the WD often, but it all came good in the end....

I understood others have used petrol to get rid of glue, but I can't vouch for that method.

no its a solid glue, like epoxy resin

Cover it with a new tank pad...

try a soft cloth and some petrol.

Bonkers as it may sound, try soaking a small cloth in deisel and leaving that in contact with the glue overnight, that should soften the glue enough to be able to scrape it off with a plastic scraper.

I have done this on painted metal before, but not on wafer thin Suzuki paint!

Try surgical spirit from the chemists. Was reccommended to me for a similar problem--worked a treat.Small bottle about a quid.

Don't know if it will work on this, it sounds harder, but...I have always polished off the last remaining bits, and it's worked pretty well! No idea why...just get a load of polish on there and start rubbing (oo-er)...

the top part near the filler cap wouldn't budge, so i managed to cover that with the new pad but now the bottom part and one side is showing so i will try some of the ideas said
