Just seen the ebay ad - you're missing a trick mate - you need to set the opening price low - like 1p low.
That way you attract loads of bidders and get them in a bidding war.
There's a wierd psychological effect with ebay - once someone has bid on something, even if its only a couple of quid, in their heads they already own it - and they'll keep bidding until they really do own it -but only if in the begining they thought they would get a ridiculous bargain.

strange but true!

I use that tactic all the time and I almost always get more than I expect - and never less than what its worth - even when I have been up against other sellers selling the same gear - often better condition - but who have set high opening bids.

By doing what you have done - setting the opening bid at just over book price - no one thinks they are going to get a silly bargain, so they'll be less inclined to bid in the first place, so you're less likely to start a bidding frenzy.

by all means set the reserve at a sensible price of course, but high openers are a waste of time - and cost you more too.

i was told its a lot cheaper to advertise somthing for a grand, than it is to start at 1p with a grand reserve

(soory for the derail)

Depends on what you consider a lot cheaper. I've just sold my bike on eBay and am looking for a curvy SV.
It only cost ?4 more to use a reserve, so I did that. But I definitely agree with what was said about attracting buyers with lower start
(again sorry for the derail :offtopic:)
