Hello all, i'm a brand spanking new rider who passed DAS last summer and have been patiently waiting to buy my first ever bike. Compared to a lot of the machines i've see browsing on here its a bit on the shabby side....but it's a start and i'm pretty pleased with it.
To do list includes getting it de-restricted (may do my-self if it doesn't look too tricky), ditching the annodised blue indicators and bar-ends and generally getting well aquainted with my new toy. First impressions are pretty good, bike has 14k on the clock - FSH and all old documents which is always good.
Anyway - hello all, and here are a few photos of my new SV.

Greetings, stick your location in your profile and get yourself down your local meet, I'm sure someone there will be able to give you some useful advice.
Cheers Mark.

Any thoughts on de-restricting the bike, from the paperwork it looks like a restrictor between the carbs and the inlet which would involve removing the carbs. I'm sure i could fiddle about and get it right but with the place that fitted it just a few miles away it might be worth getting them to do it for me if there is anything else that need done at the same time.

Welcome , nice choice of bike , and those rims ..... you`ll be needing some Solvol Autosol for polishing them up if they aren`t laquered . Just remember this ............
After polishing , and standing back to admire your efforts , that soft squidgy feeling under your heel ? That`ll be a brand new tube of Autosol that you`ve squirted for 20 yards down your driveway by standing on it :D

i think to be fair the wheels look better in the photos than in person, they have silver dishes and lips with a blue annodised center but the lips and dish are a bit pitted, i might get the autosol on to try to remove a bit of the pitting. Also the front rim has red rim tape which looks like it was put on by stevie wonder so i'l redo that once ive had a shot at bringing them up.

Welcome to the forum, don't forget to join in the idle banter. If you're careful, then its safe to sit NEAR bear, but best move away if a lady turns up.
[EDIT] i just read bears signature
Congratulations on the DAS pass aswell :D

thanks for the kind words, i'm sticking to my guns though - the photos flatter it a little...
called the garage who wanted £60 per hour to de-restrict, so gave it a bash and it wasn't too tricky (now have a set of restrictor rings for sale if anyones interested).
Just going to have some lunch then go for my 1st spin at full power - wish me luck!

nope, belly pan came already on, but again thats one of the parts i'm not too sure abut - it has a crack in it and to me looks a bit squinty. Will sort the wheels and the rim tape out first before touching that though.
Went out for a wee ride up loch lomond side after taking the restrictors out and WOW! thought the bike was fast yesterday but today if feels amazing. One of the big things for me was always going to be low down grunt, due to the fact i will be mostly using this to cut about the city i didn't want to be wringing it's neck all the time.
Bottom end, mid-range and top end have sharpened up big time, just a wee twist and it feels like its going mad - but i guess all you folks will know this already!
So to any of you people who have a restricted bike and a full licence get it de-restricted, i had the FI type washers on the inlets removel was as follows:
remove pillion seat
remove main seat (2 bolts & 2 screws on the plastic covers then 2 allen bolts to remove seat)
loosten and prop up tank (2 allen bolts at the headstalk)
remove airbox assembly (just pulls off but could take out the air cleaner by its 4 screws first)
loosten the 2 jubilee clips that tighten the carbs to the rubber inlets (from o/s of the bike and a long phillips drive)
pull both carbs away and carefully move to the side to get a finger in to the inlet and pull the pesky restrictors out (no need to remove inlets, big screws seemed to be siezed anyway!)
clean carbs whilst your in there
in a Haynes stylee, refitting is a reversal of removal.
easy! But what a difference it made.

been getting used to riding a a bike again and getting more confident on it.
Autosol purchased tonight - made a start on polishing the forks, rear footrest hangers and the wheels - arms ache already...

tell me about it,
just a minor gripe - went to go to machine mart on the way home from work to get some polishing mops, website said they shut a 6, but at 5.55 they are all locked up and away.
