View Full Version : Anyone ever broke there cheekbone??
As the title say's.
Well have you?
Had a slight altercation at rugby on saturday :smt062 which has left me with a depressed fracture to the right cheek, broken nose again :D who ever broke it has done me a favour as it's now straight on not bent.
Also a glued left eye. Various bumps n lumps to the back of my head. Well there was 3 of em :(
What did/does the operation entail?
How long were you kept in for?
How long after the injury did it take for the operation?
Still waiting to hear back from the consultant at the hospital.
Thought i'd ask the mighty org for there font of knowledge n wisdom.
Due to fly out to Turkey for work next monday but it's put the kaibosh on that ;)

Oooh that hurts, more than my injuries ;)
Someone took a cheap shot on the blindside to cause the cheek problem, i took offence to this cowardly act so dished out some good ol fashioned toe toe pugilism...ok ok looked more like a windmill than anything else, then 3 of the opposition decided to go to town on me :(
Meanwhile all my team were 30 yards up the pitch scoring a try, not a diversionary tactic i'd recommend to anyone lol!
So whilst everyone else was out on the town getting :drink: i was in A&E for 7 hours.
Happy days!
looking good cuffy lol. i cracked my cheekbone - well an ex bf did it for me - years ago. If I bump the left hand side of my face I get a black eye. shouldnt stop you flying but looking like you do might x

Cuffy..I feel your pain mate! I smashed my left cheek eye socket playing rugby myself.Working a move with a mate that did not go to plan.
My head swelled up to a huge size over the first 24 hours although in truth I did not think the pain was that bad.
Anyways normally they wait a few days for the swelling to recede and then make very small incisions,(near the hairline just above the ear If I remember properly. They then sort of insert small tyre levers to push everything back in to place.
Mine went pretty well under general anaesthetic. However my left eye socket where it meets my nose, has not fused together perfecty and one can feel a slight "ridge" where the bones did not align fully. Close examination of my face ,(and it has to be very close) indicates one side of my face looking ever so slightly different than the other.
None of the above are anything to worry about, I do have some permanent nerve damage to the left side of my face which again is very slight but when touching with fingers the sensation felt is different than the other side of my face.
I was training again 2 days after my op and played asgain 4 weeks later....but I was a crazy bas*rd mate!

As Pedrosa says it`s a very small incission above the ear and close to the hairline then a "Gillies" is inserted (a small instrument that looks a bit like a crochet hook). The bone is popped back into place and normally pins/plates aren`t required.
Best of luck with the surgery and hope you have speedy recovery.
I broke my cheek bone. Was cracked by a bloke, I just got in the way of a punch intended for another (honest!) Corcking black eye, in fact whole of the left side of the face for a long time, towards the end it was that very attractive green .... looked like that mask character!
Didnt have any work done on it though, I have still got a little 'chip' when you stroke the cheek but nothing to see, unless I smile, and you no there is something wrong with that area. This happened about 6 months ago, the eye still goes very black when I'm tired.
I have NEVER seen a black eye like it, I thought I was never going to look normal again, but I do (kind of!)
If its any help my eye was shut for nearly a week, swelling lasted longer, and the bruising did last ages ..... hide under a baseball cap ... oh and dont laugh, it hurts too much ;)
In 1983 I had my right cheekbone broken by 3 skinheads - one of the perils of wearing a leather bike jacket around here at the time. The fact I was alone and on crutches with a broken leg in plaster didn't put them off either.
I honestly haven't a clue how they put the bone back in place, I was sparko from the moment I hit the deck until about 5 hours later when I woke in hospital feeling like my head had been encased in concrete.

Didn't break my cheekbone but my left lower orbital got shattered meaning I have a nice plastic plate under my eye where the bone once was.
Couple of mates at rugby have broken theirs took em about 6 weeks before they where training again.
