Y'know, one of those thingies that connects to a laptop.

I can't find a hire place in Shrewsbury (not surprising), does anyone know of anywhere in the West Midlands that hires AV equipment?

can you not buy one and justify it as a business expence against tax?

You could always test it thoroughly in your home witha few movies as well.

When and how long do you need it for?

It would probably cost nearly as much to hire one as to buy one.

The cheapest data projector on Ivojo (http://www.ivojo.co.uk/projectors-by-price-0.htm) is £229+VAT.

2 days 28 - 29 April, although it's possible that we'll be repeating the presentation (on equity release) to other groups.

have just had a look at Ivojo (thanks Wyrdness!) - I've never come across this site and had no idea that they were relatvely cheap. Might well be more sensible to buy. I'm VAT registered so I can get the VAT back, and yes I can deduct it against income tax - probably too small a spend for capital allowance.

Check the resolutions on the low-end ones.

They are a bit on the low-side I think.

To see if it would work, resize your desktop to the same res and see if the presentation etc fits ok.

this one http://www.ivojo.co.uk/optoma-ep910.htm @ £1297 ex-VAT is the cheapest one that does the same res as my Laptop/20" Widescreen LCD monitor for example.

But then you could probably claim the capital on something like that

And would be sooo good in the lounge instead of the TV :P

WSB @ life-sized anyone?

720p on a projector is more than sufficient. Check out the Optoma HD65, Dixons have it for £420ish and it looks to dogs.

100" projected picture or a crappy 37" LCD tv...hmmz. ;)

I'm not convinced by 1080p yet. Even 10' from a 100"+ screen I can't make out individual pixels. They're gorgeous to look at up close, but pointless for real life use. 1080i/720p is more than sufficient.

Most will be guaranteed to 2000, or even some- 4000 hours nowadays!

The one I linked to is not even 1080 - its only 1050x1400

I linked to it as the minimum spec I would consider for a monitor to show computer output, but anything that does 1280x1024 would also do.

For a simple powerpoint-style presentation, a simple 800x600 projector should do the job just fine. I have an old one, but it's lent out at the moment.

Yep I just want something that does the basic job, don't need bells and whistles. I know zip about them. Was going to tcheck my laptop when I get honme to have a look at the resolution etc.

Its just in this day when 1024x768 is regarded as low-end, and 1280x1024 is normal, an 800x600 may seem limited and or be too small for the presentation.

I would personally, if buying, add a few quid more and get something a little more versatile.

but then I spent £500 on a monitor.......
