Out on a ride last weekend and Lissa mentioned to me that the MOT on the Sv must be due soon. As she is not often wrong :notworthy:, I checked when I got home. Ran out last month.#-o

Luckily my MOT guy can fit me in this week, but just hope it doesn't have any problems as we're down to do ASM's memorial run on Saturday.

Just as well I'm an otherwise law-abiding citizen. :smt005

Why don't they send out reminders like with road tax.

Oops indeed. Hopefully it'll be sorted soon though.

It's for this very reason that I tax and MOT the car (and will do the same with the bike when it's old enough) at the same time. More bills to pay at the same time, but at least they remind you. :)

Was going to pay a visit to my local bike shop to ask about plastic welding, and i know they do MOT's, so i knew mine was due soon.
Checked my last one,and it ran out in December 07,(4 montha ago)

They managed to fit me in there and then, nice cup of coffee and a read of the paper down the local pub later, new mot, but sadly not another 16 month one!!!

2 things they picked up on,low rear pads,(doing this week) and they had to put on a little stick on reflector on the rearlight/number plate holder (looks very tacky).Mine has a standard rear end,and didn,t need one for the last MOT.
So:
1. is this a new requirement,(i know cars have to have a reflector)
2. It's just not been noticed before
3. Could my bike be an inport, and is not compliant to the UK market

Dont think its new, I've been reminded every time year on year, but they have never seen it a reason to fail.

I cant say I saw any illegal activity last weekend Pete - certainly nothing other than occassionally creeping over the speed limit... :-dd

Agree on the reminder though - the technology is all there I am sure...

Theres no need to send a reminder, as a valid MOT is a must have to get it Taxed and for that they do send a reminder.

Mine failed its first MOT this morning.....

main light beam aim too low
no reflector

so the nice man adjusted the lights and stuck a reflector on the back and then passed it. Wayhay

If you get your Tax online like I do to save queueing for hours at the post office, it'll check you have a valid MOT at that time but it could run out a month later. As the details are obviously stored on a database they could quite easily send reminders out just like with the road tax but then they'll probably want to increase how much it costs to get an MOT just like they did when they introduced the newer electronic system.
