View Full Version : Does my bike hate me.

It seems as though my bike is conspiring against me... or is it just my imagination, I couldn't get to work yesturday as the battery was flat. Now I know I checked the charging circuit with Sarj and it seems to be working, so I can only assume I have some sort of voltage leak. This would tie in with the fact that I noticed that when my indicators are running my parking light flashes a tad.

I know I'm just being silly and Helga has done a lot of miles for very little maintance, but it just seems to be coming all at one and its rather depressing with all the other stresses I have.

Anyway, I'm hoping to use the Monday that I have off to rip all the back end, front, tank and airbox off and just check the whole circuit. Just hope a day is enough, it will probably rain now. :(

My SV went through a spell of that, its really irritating, just one thing after another... then I went into the dealers for some brake pads and came out with a GSXR...

That's the problem with putting big miles on a bike that is used regularly. You always seem to be working on it. Or you don't and sometimes everything happens at once.

Feel for you Grinch. Guess buying a lower mileage curvy is out of the question?

try having two.........then it is very expensive, your as silly as me, cause everything costs so little for so long...then it never ends. My advice...say hello to her every morning and pat her on the bum.....I do it with suzy( because I'm a weirdo) but I think she's like Herbie the beetle, and she'd get the huff if I didn't and would misbehave...lol

Grinch DOES have two :P

Yes I do... else I'd be waiting for parts forever...

Sounds like a dodgy earth to me

I was thinking the same, though its going to be fun to try to trace, I hate trying to sort dodgy earths. Is clean everything up and hope for the best job I think.

AHHHH, but he only ever talks about Helga, so I thought he had one.....

Thats cause Anastasia sits in the back garden waiting on time to finish the work I started on her with, but with family life, dodgy weather and the other bike breaking down I never get time to get her sorted.

Don't bother trying to trace a bad earth you'll be there for months.

Get some heavy ish flex like from a kettle, strip an inch at one end, this is going to be the battery end, loop this round something and then solder this in place, fit this to the battery -ve. Then I like to run this to the frame, like the coil mounting bolts. Solder a few more wires into the ring on the battery, run one to the reg-rec -ve. One to the front somewhere and splice into the earth in the loom.

This is a bodge tastic solution, but it does work!

Pardon... -ve? Is that meant to be negative?

Hope you get it sorted.

My housemate and his car have a 'hate-hate' relationship... when drunk he's been known to elbow drop on the bonnet and has attempted to even choke-slam the thing (it's a crappy 'N' reg Citroen AX)... in return every time his bonus is due it decides that something will get to the point of almost failing and wipe out half his savings.

But, after nine years of unfailing service, decent fuel economy and dealing with a 50 mile commute each day they wouldn't be parted despite the hatred... that car runs on abuse and would probably fall apart if I took it through a car-wash. ;)

Well managed to get some time on the bike today, and just time on the bike, so thought I'd be try to figure out where the electrical problems I'd been getting had come from.
First something I made last week, my new rear brake leaver, nuts, bolts and some rubber tube, much better

Argh who stole all my plastic and tank? The stuff you need to take off to get a look at the electrics.

Maybe this could be the source of some of my problems.

Thats the live feed too, so looks like I'm going to have to re-wire it now as it just fell apart when I tried to clean it up.

Well riding it in the rain appears to have tested it, and she seems to be running well.

So, fingers crossed, all appears to be well.
