View Full Version : Im a quitter.............
today i quit my job. why? i hear you type..
well, iv been looking to get out the job for about 4 or 5 months now but would have preffered to leave when i had found something else. But today my deputy warehouse manager shouted at me, and i quote "F off you C, i can easily replace you with someone else" i thought... thats its, **** you im off!
my job was to dliver furniture for harveys, the proud sponsors of corrie (pffff!) loved the job because of the physicality, people you meet and the satisfaction of getting sofas into rooms when it looks almost impossible, driving the truck and the laughs we had out on the road. the problem became worse when i was told that my work partner of the last 5months wont be coming back after his two weeks off and he's to be replaced by a current agency worker who couldnt give two tits about the job apart from being paid and looking good all the time was the icing on the cake. being shouted at this morning for no reason and the manner he did it in was the candle in the cake so BYE!
my gaffer knew i was thinking of leaving and was concerned to hear that if i end up working with a meathead then im gone and was willing to sort the problem out but today was to much, so im now currently self unemployed. ive been told i cam claim job seekers allowance due to the fact that im actively seeking work but cant do that till tomorrow.
im thinking of getting in touch with head office and complaining about my (ex) fat arrogant knuckle scraping rhondda valleyian DWM purely for his attitude towards me and the others that work there but then it might come back to my gaffer who i dont want to get involved in this because he wasnt there at the time and he is a good boss but i really dont think i can be ar$ed to go that route as it would undoubtedly involve interviews and such the like..put up with enough crap off that place.
options? well agency driving could be a no go due to current economical climate, fuel rises credit crunch blah blah tho i am willing to do anything till something turns up, apart from indoor officey type jobs, no offence but iv always been hands on labour intensive type of person, i couldnt handle an office but i have thought of maybe motorcycle instructor. worth looking into anyway
so there you have it, im home, bored, jobless, releived and stressed at the same time, sorry ppl, rant over :smt045

Well to relieve your boredom, start putting together a constructive dismissal case - make stuff up if its not proveable one way or another, then present it to your now ex work.
Worst case your old boss gets some real **** from above, best case you get some dosh out of it - I dont think you would even need to make anything up.
With the "Corrie-connection" threaten to go to the press :)
maybe now you can come out on the bike with us

I'd be inclined to take the stance of workplace bullying...
theres loads of rules and regs on some goverment website on workplace behaviour and guielines

I'd agree with Soulkiss mate. Being shouted at like that is not only uncalled for but highly unproffesional and rude. Me i'd have smacked him one before i walked out and gone straight to see a solicitor about it.
But you got nothing to loose by pursuing it and if your a half decent driver then i'm sure you know theres loads of jobs out there for drivers so good luck with it.

if anything he should have done in the office with doors closed but then he's from aberdare, over 20 stone in weight and calls himself 'big g'. he has no etiquette
What did you do to wind him up?
was talking to one of the other drivers about the situation with me having to work with a work shy muppet, and from the other side of the warehouse a foghorn boomed. i can honestly say i did nothing apart from talk to a mate about a problem. your guess is as good as mine. but he's like it all the time, its how he is

Any manager/supervisor that swears to an employee in a threatening manner is breaking the law and can be done for bullying, however witnesses are required.
Been on the recieving end of a foul mouthed ass and had him done, also been a witness in a tribunal because of the same thing to a colleague.

Sorry to hear that you felt that you had to walk out today!
Its a shame when ar$e holes drive people out.
If you are seriously thinking of making an unfair dismissal claim it could be worth contacting the ar$e's boss and say that you would be prepared to return, provided that you got an appology and a gurantee that there would be no repeat performance. (this establishes a) that you really want the job, b) that you reacted to provocation, c) that you are prepared to be reasonable.)
Regarding agency driving, I am currently doing that. I have registered with 2 agencies and could work 6 days a week with a mix of 7.5t and class 2.
What ever you decide to do - Good Luck!

Yeah, when i was on school work experience i worked as a groundsman at the local golf club(not my sport)it was a hot summer and great to be out in it all the time.
If it got to hot then you could just cool off under the water sprincklers...aaah happy days.:D
i have considered g2d's gardening idea if i couldnt get a full time job, id do anything for money till something comes along,
id love to be a greenkeeper me being an outdoor person and a golf head would be ideal
i had to go to a jobseeker interview at my job centre today, the guy who interviewed me twitched as i answered no to his 'have you signed on before' question. it resulted in me having to sign on next friday and three jobs to find out about. two of them need a written app with a cv. no idea how to do a cv so my sis is helping me with that tonight
third job was for a company who delivers tyres to sth wales and west country. he seemed enthusiatic to hear that im 36 with a clean license with knowledge of the area he covers, and he's even dropping the application form off to my house tonight :) so fingers crossed

How come you can get job seekers if you quit??
I thought you could only get it if you were fired/made redundant?
I've walked out of two **** jobs in the past and got JSA immediately. All depends on how good a case you make in your interview, and how ignorant your ex-employer is when they fill out the form the JC send. On the first occasion the ex-employer rang up and shouted obscenities down the phone at the guy at the JC - no question I was getting JSA from that moment on. Second time the ex-employer didn't even bother returning the form - case closed, Lozzo gets JSA.

Neat, how much do you get on JSA these days?? ... isn't there a contribution based one and a normal one?
Sure, I'll try and get another at some point, but where I quit my job I wanna get some 'back' for a change (why not; been paying through the @ss for every other fecker all these years :( ).
I don't care if it is ?5/week I fecking want it!!! :smt076
I already know I can only get contribution based, but I have no idea how much that is .. I mean it could be ?200/week or 20p/week for all I know!! .. do you know what the formula is for working that out!?!? :)
Do I get any other cool stuff, like reduced council tax ... anything, I mean ANYTHING I am entitled to I WANT 8)
Signed
- one very bitter tax payer!!

tbh im not really sure. its all been a bit of a rush and all im concentrating on at the mo is finding a job :shaking:
So, about 'Big G'. How's he going to explain why you've quit, and left them short handed? Suggest you call the boss and tell all.
HR department will be getting a phone call on monday or would it be better to write it in my letter of resignation?
Stoppy - get some legal advice before you send something like this. I'm not an expert in employment law!! How about this for a draft - as stated get advice from someone who knows what they're talking about!!!
You could go back and say that you didn't resign, cos if people tell you to foxtrot oscar and you walk out, you may well not have resigned. Depends if you want the job I suppose! If you do want to resign and definitely don't want to go back:
'Dear Gaffer
You will know that I walked out on Friday.
I really didn't want to walk out, I only did so because I was forced into it by the bullying, harrassment and intimidation of 'Big G'. His vile language 'F off you C' is something that nobody should have to tolerate in the workplace. Unfortunately, it happened once too often and I can no longer stand the poisoned atmosphere that I was expected to work in. I had done nothing wrong and I don't know why this abusive lout took against me. Perhaps he gets a kick out of being a bully, I don't know.
But what I do know is that this sort of bullying is a flagrant breach of contract, and in walking out I didn't terminate the contract, I simply accepted the many breaches of contract committed by this unpleasant and unbearable bully. You did nothing to stop him behaving in this way and so the conduct became institutionalised.
I am therefore going to claim that I was constructively dismissed, and also I am going to claim unfair dismissal.
Yours faithfully
Stoppy'

That should do the trick, but I think it'd sound more professional if you made the changes I highlighted above.
Good luck Stoppy!!
Even if you don't want to work there again, this dude needs a talking at by the big boss ... that sort of thing just isn't acceptable!! It is HE that needs the boot ;)
Why don't you be really cheeky and go to the big boss and say "can I have the floormans job, he is blatantly not a people person and I'd love to take on the challenge as I get on great with the rest of the staff and understand his role ... "
Stoppy gets promoted, a-hole gets the boot!! 8)
Whatever you do, don't start telling tails and calling him names to him or his seniors. That will get you nowhere!! ;)
thanks guys :) thats a much better letter than i had written. along the same lines but mine was too long. all written and printed off, ;)
