I think I know the answer to this, but the mighty org has put me right before.
Is this fubar'd?

If that were my bike I'd be getting it changed ASAP.
That cracking in the middle means it wont be long till the canvas is through, Z6's go down hill really really quickly when they get to that state.
Is that a nail or a mushroom repair in it as well ?
We learned the hard way when our Diablo went like that, we had less than 50 miles before it was down to the canvas.

Change it!
The mighty org has spoken - on it first thing.
The front is fine, what is the opinion of the org on just changing one?

It'll be fine.
I normally get 1 front to rears as long as the front is in good condition then IMHO you'll be fine to change just the rear.

No problems with doing this, you usually get 1 front to last two rear tyres anyway.
get the same tyre again though so they match?

Yep. My main gripe with Z6s is how quickly they go from this state to down to the canvas. I've gone from it being fine (and well within the legal tread limits), to that appearing after 10 miles, to being down to the canvas after another 40.

It's the wheelies, I tell you :p
I think the problem(if you can call it one ;) ) is the lack of thread in the middle, so easy to assume the tyre is still good for more miles.

I'm really upset, seemingly the bike doesn't like me trying to save moeny with DIY, so it thows other obstacles in my way!

They've not had a great reputation in the past for price or customer service, ring around, I generally use Essentail Rubber in North London, but could be a trek for you. Try phoning Lambas in Carshalton too, though they'd probably need to get them in.
Universal Tyre in South Croydon has done me ok in the past as well.
Sidcup tyres also appear to have one a pound more and seems like a small firm willing to go that bit further. I know Daimo has had issues with Watlings in gravesend.
They are only a pound dearer than watlings too.

But he only needs a rear, he's said already the front is OK, no point throwing away a good front when theres no need to IMHO.
Tread is fine although I have had a puncture repaired on it!

£5995 with a free K7 GSX-R 600 ? ;)
Sorry, had to... :D
Went for the Metzeler Z6 in the end a bit cheaper than ?5995.....The difference in tread is massive no wonder it was worn through.
