Just been to my local dealers for some bits n pieces for me sv when a part exchange came in a 53 plate fz6 fazer the one with the under seat exhausts it had done just over 97,000 miles i had a good look around the bike having had one of these myself and it looks remarkable in very good condtion engine still sounded sweet the guy had part ex it for a new R6 and the dealer had given him a grand for the fazer i was in two minds to make them a offer for it as i know they wont put it in the showroom and would want rid of it quickly and would be ideal for me as just a bad weather commuter bike to and from work ,the bike has no service history but is moted till jan 09 it must have been a couriers bike with that type of mileage so would you touch a bike with that type of mileage and whats the highest mileage bikes you have owned or seen ta

Rictus probably has the record with 150k + on an SV.
I'd have it if it was cheap.

RandyO had one with at least 140k on it last I checked. Rictus' bike wasn't on it's first engine in fairness, but all the bearings were good!

P.S: In terms of other bikes (non-SV) I've read of couriers racking up over 750,000 on a VFR or Blackbird.

If its well looked after and in good nick then the 97,000 miles shouldn't be an issue if you get it cheap.
The 750 has 98,723 miles on her (2 engines but same internal components since 2000 or 9,273 miles).
The 650 has 16,051 miles (one engine)
I'd go back there in a couple of weeks to see how much milage they have taken off the bike! Don't laugh, it happens. If the bike is in fiar condtion, im sure they could get at elast 2k with say 35000 on the clock!!
I have seen a blackbird with over 300k on the clock at boxhill. It wasnt pretty, but the engine was still good.

i know its not a bike but our old peugeot 405 turbo diesel estate has 657000 miles on it... it used to get used alot but not so much anymore, still pulls like a train (for a car) and does 45-50mpg

Ditto. I've also heard of million mile CX500s!
Until a couple of years ago I owned a 1983 Honda CB250RS single that had clocked up 192,000 miles. I gave it away to a mate who was desperate for a bike.
jesus! My bike sounds pretty under used with 7000 on the clock on a 53 plate!

Ha, ha... yes, but all the mechanical internals have lasted 88,000 miles plus in one engine with no problems!
what is annoying is the way Dealers concider a 5 yr old bike with 25K n the clock high millage.
I am not worrrying about the milage on my 6R i am on 1750 since december and i expect to at least double that this year alone. Just going to ride and enjoy it :)

This thread should be shown to people who go "im intersted in this <insert name of bike here>, but worried about the high milage...its got 14,000 miles on it"
As long as you keep up with oil + filter changes, and fix anthing when it breaks (thats fix, not bodge) then theres no reason why any engine shouldnt last any less than 150,000 miles

As said above, i don't believe the mileage of a bike describes its condition. As long as it looked after and well maintained its a good buy!

i agree most bikes have there oil changed a lot more frequent than a car so shoulkdnt see why 97,000 miles would be a problem bikes 4 years old thats less than 25,000 mile a year 2000 mile a month or 500 mile a week !

To be fair, suspension seems to go off much quicker on bikes than cars. Likewise, on most bikes, the finish generally looks much worse after 20K miles than a car (many of which look almost brand new after 50K+ with a good clean). High mileage bikes also tend to of been crashed a fair bit, even if it's just fairly low speed drops on ice etc. I think the situation with bikes being devalued so much is the number of low mileage riders who change their bikes regularly- it means there are lots of low mileage bikes on the market, so people choose those over the more used ones, unless the price on the high miler is significantly lower. You don't get many 5 year old cars (bar supercars) with only 10K on the clock, but it's fairly common with bikes. Doesn't matter too much to me as my bike is worth far more to me than I'd get in cash for it and it won't depreciate much further, so I'll just run it into the ground. That doesn't mean I won't take care of it- its just had £300+ of servicing done to it, but I don't worry too much about aesthetics and I'll use it till it goes bang and even then I'll probably just put another engine in it.
