ok so me and cuz have been to bassetts pole bike meet tonight and i was dead set on a gixer 750k8 next year (a kind of goal), i must say i didnt hear a il4 that i liked the sound of? i dont want to start a debate on il4 v Vtwin here but there were lots of bikes there with all types of zorsts on as u may imagine, the V twin is just beef and music to my ears the il4 just didnt do it for me?

It's true that there isn't much to match the sound of a larger capacity v-twin with decent airflow in full steam.
I agree.

VFR800 with race pipes... nearest thing I've managed to find that sounds anywhere near as nice as a v-twin.
I think the high-frequency scream of a supersports bike is just as intoxicating myself. I love the rumble/thunder of a twin, but there's something deeply impressive about the smooth ferocity that greets your ears with 600cc+ IL4 sports bikes.

Indeed I agree with Kwak. I have to say ive never heard anything as nice as my mates race tuned '03 RSV-R with a blueflame exhaust. It was like WOW. Best sound from a IL4 is the igntion being turned off :p
No no ill take that back the M1 with its firing order more like a V4 sounds sweet. Change the crank and the Cams to make it big bang and an IL4 would sound sweet. Wonder if it would work... Cant see why it wouldnt.

Performance Bike ran a series of articles where they did that with a GSXR engine, they got it running but it blew up big style... I dont know if they ever succeeded with it.
You're right about the M1 though, it sounds lovely, best of all the MotoGP bikes I think.
Yep big V-Twin's sound nice, but I love the sound of my GSXR to. from down low it has a gutteral bark / growl from the airbox and then as the rev's build this drops away and the growl changes to a wail from the Yoshi.
I think the Induction roar of my Kwak is far louder and nicer than the induction on the SV's ever was.
And wile i like the deep rumbling of the V-Twin i have to admit there is something addictive about making my engine scream as i thrash it to red line!!
and thts standard. In standard form the kwak sounds nicer than a standard SV!!

My '98 VFR800 with full Remus GP system sounded like a Nascar. :smt045

Have to agree with Kwak i like Vtwin roar full stop ( apart from the tractor type harley chug a lug noise). The VRaptor sounds absolutely amazin with the M4s, in fact last year a Puma helicopter flew along side Im Indoors as he was hammering down Scammonden Moor......he could only just hear it over the top of his zorsts.....only thing is, it don't half make my windows shake when he parks up in my back garden

My Bro's CBR400 sounds pretty good with a race system on it- though I'm not nearly as keen on the IL4 whine as the Vroar.
I'm seriously considering a VFR400 for my next bike- just for a year or so. They sound GREAT. And 400 sportsbikes are SUCH a giggle to ride.

If they still sold VFR4s now I'd probably have one too :D
Folks who were on the Boorman ride will remember a couple of gixxers (one was definitely a 6, not sure on the other) which were probably the first I've heard and thought "that's just too loud"; one almost sounded like a two stroke the way it burbled and spat at every slight throttle adjustment overrun.
Nicest sound from a bike I have ever heard was when following teriakymonkey's 675 around silvertsone with the race can on. It was not a loud il4 scream, it was a more kind of refined ferrari Howl type sound.....amazing....triple all the way.

V-twins sound best going slowly and stopped. But nothing sounds as good as an engine hitting 16000+ rpm going full chat ;)
Triples and twins have the best sound effect on the road.

Kwak, go and find a gixxer 750 with Carbon scorpion can on mate and tell me you don't like the sound of that, on idling it sounds awesome! My CBR, due to LP getting new cans is now the whispering death bike!

 - see sig. Very happy now.
VFR VTEC also has that induction roar when the VTEC valves come in, it is addictive.
But on the whole, I think a large capacity twin is the dogs danglies. An SP2 rumbled past in town yesterday, OMG! :smt040
IL4? - not bothered by em.

I do find this in general too, even my CBR with aftermarket can doesn't sound that great at low revs compared to a V-twin. However I notice this is from the bystander's point of view - when I was on my SV (Akrapovic system) it didn't sound any better than my CBR does now  and the CBR at high revs sounds good whether you're on it, or watching...

yeah the IL4 howel when on them is addictive, my Kwak makes me ride it like a hooligan i tell you, it does!!
Its not my fault it wants to howl and begs to be thrashed everywhere, so i oblige it ;).
Its very very addictive getting it to scream and howl :)

+1 VFR800 Vtec when me and dad are out and he goes flying past when the valves open sound amazing and thats with the standard zausts on it. I love the sound of the TL1000R though with CCC cans on it sounds awesome!

I prefer induction rasp to exhaust noise. The sound makes it almost worth the poor fuelling de-snorkelling results in.

I tried that and liked the bark/rasp, but wasn't so keen on the boom. Nice just revving it, not so nice on constant acceleration.
For a louder exhaust I prefer the sound of a big single , even more than a fruity V2 (but it's pretty close). I'm not a huge fan of de-silenced IL4s. The yoshi on my gixer just does not cut it the same way for me although I never really need to thrash that as it's got plenty of grunt from tickover to redline (which is much lower than Neios' ZX6 ;))

my GSXR 750 has a lovely induction noise and the standard can is loud considering. I always found the sound of the SV a bit blatty after I put the un-baffled Remus Revolution on it, but loud it was :D It's hard to beat the sound of a 998 though
An MV on full chat sounds great, not like a traditional IL4, something of a cross between IL4 and triple sound

Mine (D675 for those that don't know) sounds pretty good now the Triumph race can's on:cool:
I have to say, although the Vtwin is one of the nicest sounding engines out there, nothing beats a V4.

Note* The pop of the mille near the beggining is it hitting the limiter... Dont sound like its even revving :?

I luv the noise from my bike in the tunnel... maybe we ought to arrange a rideout just so`s we can go thru either of the tunnels, see how many bikes we can get lol :D

The fuelling is fine on mine with it de-snorkelled and 15mm tank raisers.

This would be good, leeds has loads of tunnels but is quite a trek from me, would still do the distance for a laugh.

No problems on my k3 either. (No tank raisers) I am not exactly what you would call subtle on the "happy handle" though.
Could not believe how loud it got after chucking the snorkel. Suppose, your head sits right over the airbox so you get the full honk.
Love it.
Sitting at a bike pub a few years ago. A bike starts, stops the talkin', lots of straining necks to see what machine sounds so good..............

yep the Leeds tunnels are a superb example for Vtwin playtime, I speed up to purposely slpw down under a tunnel, to hear the noise bouncing off the walls...lol, the VRaptor is earsplitting though, its too loud at the best of times but sat behind it in a tunnel is....welll you just have to giggle, especially if it gives you a light show as well with a three foot blue flame out of the zorst!:smt077
