Hello & new to this group. Attached two photos of where I ride my SV in the foothills & mountains of North Carolina. Many twistys yet to explore in North Carolina and Tennessee. Also ride a KLR650 in the Carolina mountains with many Dual Sport roads & trails. Saw a small bear four weeks ago while DS riding, but did not stop to take a photo since mama bear was probably close by.

Have not ridden the Dragon yet, but plan to ride there on the SV with my son on his VTX. There are many twistys to ride one hour NW of my home. Plan to go exploring on the KLR this morning after I finish my chores. (retired) Here are some photos of my Son on his VTX and Jonas Ridge Store where we meet on route 181 (big sweepers) between Morganton & Pineola, NC.

Thanks for the welcome and kind words. If any of you visit this area, would be happy to give you a riding tour of the area. Rode the KLR yesterday and will ride the SV today. Mounted a RAM camera mount on the SV handlebars this morning to take some sweeper and twisty photos and will post tomorrow. The following photos were taken yesterday on my Dual Sport ride: :)

Where is this? Looks like it could be fun in a kayak, with a tad more water in the creek.

There is a Kayak in the photo, look closely. The water is low in the photo due to a severe drought last year, but water levels are much better now. It is Wilson Creek located 10 miles NNW of Morganton, NC. :)

Cool so there is. A quick Google reveals this to be a Class IV run with two significant falls. Excellent. you lucky git! :D
Hello Bill, from another newbie on here. I have a good friend in Goldsboro, NC. If I ever get chance to go visit I can see I'll have to try and fit the bike in my case!

Thanks for the welcome. Let me know when you visit. The twistys I ride are 2 hours ride West of Goldsboro. I live in Denver North Carolina on the SW side of Lake Norman, 22 miles NW of Charlotte, NC. Speaking of riding, all chores completed for the day, Time to Ride! :riding:

Rode about 200 miles on the SV today. Had some vibration/blurr in some of the photos. Roads today were Old 18 South of Morganton, NC, 181 North of Morganton, Blue Ridge Parkway, and 221 North of Marion, NC. Hope these photos give an idea of some of the fun roads to ride on the SV in North Carolina.

wow! looks like a nice place you live, well paved roads with no funny cracks, holes or metal work right on the riding line :D
Nice SV aswell, that deep red winey sorta colour is my favorite SV colour, after the 1999 yellow :D
I think you have an ideal location that could well be considered as one of the places for the annual rideout next year :smt035 if you fancy a bunch brits propping up your local bar (s) :D
(i wonder how much it would cost to get all our bikes over the pond?)
Matt
Well - I s'pose I'll begrudingly welcome you to the site - but after all those gorgeous photos I do now hate you and wish a plague of snow upon you to deny you those roads...
... if I can't have 'em - you can't.
It looks seriously beautiful, you lucky man. ;)

Thanks for the Welcome! My family and I are originally from Virginia, but now make Carolina our home. The roads are in nice shape. Also like the 07 SV Wine color and you may notice my KLR is Red, also. We have a Euro night on the 2nd Tuesday night of every month at Mac's Bar-B-Q, Charlotte NC, weather permitting, with an assortment of all makes of bikes including SVs. Will have to check it out, but some Charlotte motorcycle shops may have rental bikes. Would be happy to give a mountain tour to anyone traveling in this area. December thru February are normally the worst weather riding months. K, to be honest, did not get back into riding until after moving to Carolina, but quickly learned how great the NC mountains are! Attached a photo of the SV with a "Carolina Blue" background!

Welcome to the best SV site in the world Bill
Stunning photos- having only recently come back from my first trip to the good ole yooooo esssss of ayyyyy (NYC) I can't wait to get back there.
Going to 'do Florida' in October, and then hope to get back over to see the 'real USA' - it looks as though I will have to add NC to my must see list judging by your photos.

To see the best fall colors 5000 Feet MSL elevations are good around the first week of October, 4000 Feet MSL elevations are good around the second week, and 2000 to 3000 Feet MSL elevations are good around the third & fourth week. Google the Blue Ridge Parkway and you will find much more information. Many Americans consider the Blue Ridge Parkway to be one of our National treasures. Good place to ride or drive including connecting roads. The last time I rode with some Sport Touring Riders, we rode the Parkway and North/South sides. On that ride I saw at least ten horseshoe turns and we rode twistys "all" day! The Parkway has gentle curves compared to "some" of the connecting roads that are serious twistys. There are many roads for me to explore. I am old fashioned and do not use a GPS but like to show other riders the roads I find when exploring. Thanks for the welcome! :D
Blue Ridge Parkway during the first part of last October:

Is it as good as the KLR off road
I found my sv was pretty alright in the Brands Hatch bike-park (a nice big field). I got a bit of a telling-off from my dad for laying a long skid though

Have to admit, when riding with a guy on his Buell Lightning a few weeks ago, the SV was great on the twistys until we dropped by his house. He had a freshly graded one mile long gravel road, found myself wishing I had the KLR, but the SV handled it well.
Dads will do that when needed! :riding:

Another SV rider made a template with measurements and I made the following lightweight "small" trunk mount out of aircraft aluminum, rivets, and carbon steel bolt mount. This was experimental and has not been used yet, but thought you might want to see it:
