Just spoke to Dirk on the phone - he asked me to post on here that he is OK. I said I didn't want to go on a Suzuki forum as I ride Triumph's and BM's and don't like to mix with you riff-raff, but said I would as it's him :D.
Anyway - in case you don't know, he trashed his bike yesterday ( his fault - no surprise there then ;) ), got himself all bruised up but is alive and err, drunk now actually. Bike requires some 'tweaking' but will live to see another day. Now stuck in the Ukraine for a few days. I hope for his sake that that is the end of his bad luck!

Bad news but as you say I hope he has better luck from now on... i`m sure the alcohol will numb the pain for now!!

Thats about the long and short of it. His trip isn't over - he's going to carry on and good on him too. I like to think he's 'in training' for when the going gets really tough - those 'roads' in Kazakhstan are a nightmare and will really test his metal :smt045

I really should have posted about this last night, but with getting back from SELKENT late last night and then Brands today....
I found out about this when I got to the SELKENT meet last night and noticed I had a text from an unknown number on my phone.
Reading the text, I got a bit concerned when it opened with the statement "Had my 1st big off"
Reading on I found out it was from Dirk in the Ukraine.
As I had Sid Squid beside me he also showed great concern, so I called Dirk to check on his condition - wasnt interested in the GS at that point.
Well after finding out that Dirk was essentially ok, and Mr Squid also having a chat, I was satisfied that Dirk was fine and the bike would live again.
Sorry for not passing this on to the .org.
hope it doesnt keep him down for long :grouphug:
Wish his bike well from me Sgt Pluck - oh yeah - and him too I s'pose. :twisted:
by the way - welcome to the madhouse - well, someone had to say it. ;)

Getting major VIP treatment in Ukraine!
Biker Bars etc all really are going out of their way to make me feel welcome!
Wnet to a major biker bar yesterday & was shown to the vip area - free food & booze all night. Locals kept looknig at me wondering who I was!!! I didn't try out the shooting range in the bar as I would've shot myself in the foot.
Bike all repaired & new oil change.
Getting close to Russia now!!
