View Full Version : Akrapovic stubbied
I got my can back from Mark Hill yesterday after he finished off fitting up the new band he made and squaring everything up. I bought it as accident damaged and cut 5 inches off the length.
The marks on the can are water spots from where I rinsed a load of dead bugs off it after today's ride.

Very nice job there Lozzo. Tidied up the cut very nicely.
Personally though, I'd take off the too big sticker now.
Is that the same MHP who used to be based in Chertsey and do a lot of zorsts for Jack Lilley?
I'd take off the sticker then cut it about half way along again :p heheheh
Bet it sounds pretty good?
Saw a tuono with twin akra's today, sounded orgasmic :)

Yeah, the sticker is too big now, so I'm going for a 150mm long one or possibly a 90mm one. While the sticker is off I'll ask Mark to satinise the can again to give it a proper tidy up - he offered to do it while I was there yesterday but that meant leaving it stickerless for today, and being the tart that I am I wanted it stickered up..
its a bit big, innit?
It's just right :)

I was out riding in Northants today, and knowing what sods the local police can be I wasn't taking any chances so I stuck the road baffle from my old Scorpion in, that went right in like it was made for the Akra.
Haven't had any run ins with the northans plod, but the only time I'm out there is a blast down the A45 then the A43 towards oxford. That and the B645 (i think- the one that goes across near wellingborough). I'm sure they'd have something to say about my Art can :p
I was on the B645 today, as well as the B660 and the A507 and that road from Wimpole to Biggleswade. Had a good rideout with a friend on a Ducati 998, amazingly, it didn't break down, but it does have a wiring fault on the rear/brake lights

Hah, took in all of those roads on Saturday with Dad, we had a good time. It was the first time I'd ridden the a507, which was good fun. I cottoned on to the double whites ahead and got to have some fun, while dad followed a learner driver creeping round there :p
Did you do the Baldock to Buntingford section?
Yep, thats the double whites bit I was on about. I didn't realise it went across to the west of baldock too- it doesn't look much fun on a the map, is it any good the other side? We went buntingford-> baldock, stopped for a coffee, loads of bikes around :)
West of Baldock is crap until you get past Ampthill - from there to Jct 13 of M1 is a good bit of road, but not worth the drag over there from Baldock really. The Baldock to Ampthill road is mostly just a succession of fast wide straights and roundabouts, it's almost like Mr Milton-Keynes designed it.
The B660 from Bedford to Peterborough is a really great road, from there to March is also good, and then the drop down to Biggleswade via St Ives and Potton is quite exciting.
I've ridden the B660 quite a bit, but only from where the B645 crosses it as I usually come up through St Neots on the B1046 from Cambridge. I've been meaning to do the rest of the B645 towards rushden but haven't got round to it yet.
I've been trying to think of a fun route to my girlfriends in Faringdon that isn't silly and doesn't take far too long.. I was thinking next time I'd take the B530 down form bedford to Ampthill, but then its Milton Keynes, and the road out to Buckingham then on to Bicester isn't exactly exciting.
I've been going out for rides south of cambridge a bit more now, since I know the B660/645 fairly well, and all the roads from march back down to huntingdon/cambridge.. There's some good stuff, but like most places you end up riding through crap for a nice little bit, then more crap again.
The B645 to Rushden is actually a good bit of road, as good as the St Neots section.
If I was looking for a new way to Faringdon I'd head in a different way from the end of the Tingewick bypass. MK to Buckingham isn't bad, then on to Tingewick and instead of turning left go straight over the roundabout at the end and head out that way. It takes you over the A43 and on towards Chipping Norton, from there toward Burford and then past Brize Norton towards Swindon. You can cut left before Swindon and head through Lechlade into Faringdon. I've done that route many times when I lived in Trowbridge and is my favoured way of getting to the M4 when I'm heading for the west country.

I can't believe you were out by me and never called!
As I haven't a clue where you live it would have been difficult. We went all over the place, spent the best part of the afternoon just bimbling around showing my friend some new roads so they can go play alone later.

I don't think so. It looked too long before, but that's about right in my opinion. Can's that are shorter just look daft.
There's been 5 inches cut out, which is short enough. It stuck out way beyond the rear of the bike before, I just wanted to keep it in front of the back edge of the tyre and looking like Akrapovic made it that way to start with.
As Luke said, any shorter and it'd look daft, I'm not into monstrously short stumpy cans. At some point I will remove the 200mm sticker and replace it with a new 150mm long one so it looks more in keeping with the can length,

Yep, that's the same Mark Hill, he's moved in with SDC Performance in Stevenage now. If you need I'll dig out his number

What sorta areas were you playing? You have my number :( lol. If they need more roads to play on, on the other side of the M1 I have a few for them :) Depends roughly where abouts they are though.

Yes please Lozzo.
I've got the old Akra from my system which I've been saving just in case I ever go back to it, but seeing yours done properly really does look good. Plus I've always liked the c/f hanger instead of the ss and rubber jobby on mine now.
More than likely go shorter than yours but maybe not as small as I've got now. Have to check the proportions.

I've only got his personal mobile number cos he's a mate, so I'll text him a request for a business line and put it in this thread.
