The filler cap lock on my Z1000 is totally stuck :(

So far we have bent a key and sprayed loads of wd40 at it.

Anyone got any other ideas/tips?

hmm it probably hasent engaged properly from last time it was filled, mine has done it before, push it down with the key in it to see if it clicks in place properly.

hmm... unless the lock mechanism has broken.. can you take the cap off and investigate?

Has the lock been getting stiff for a while ( fnarr !! ) might just need a bit of lube and I've found in the past that WD40 is no good where stuck locks are concerned.

my front door lock got stuck and WD40 didnt sort it, I bought some 3 in 1 silicone based spray lube from halfords a squirt or two of that fixed the lock and its been fine ever since, Its the the stuff in the Yellow tin.

Spray that in the lock and also on the key, put the key in the lock and then remove it a few times and give it a good wiggle and that might fix it.

I'd try that first before taking it all apart.

cant take the filler cap off as it locks to the inside lip of the tank.

Have you tried the spare key? Wiggling it side to side or up and down as you try turning it. My sv has a sticky lock, but it always works when the key is wiggled.

If all else fails, seems the lock may have to be broken.

yup, it's been a bit stiff for a while.

only tried wd40 (and similar) so far. i'll buy some silicone stuff tomorrow on my WALK back from work.

when my front door lock got a bit stiff i resorted to sunflower oil. seemed to work fine after that. don't fancy trying that with the bike lock though.

oh poo. thought that might be the case.

tried both keys. and every variation of wiggling and pressing on the cap etc.

I went out to have another go at my stupid bike this morning and was expecting to have to threaten violence but after about a squillion more wiggles of the key the lock opened.

Woooooohoooooooooooooo.

I am happy now. Bike is almost back into my good books.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I'd still get some lube and give the lock mechanism a good squirt with it.

It's not like there is any petrol to go in it at the moment anyway!

Glad you got it fixed though
