View Full Version : common sense from a dealer!
A bit off common sense ffom a dealer happened today. Phoned up George whites in Swindon to ook my bike in for its 4000/6month sservice. Now its only done 2100 miles so far so GW said dont bother untill its done the miles. I asked about the fact that the book says 4000 or 6 months affectin the warranty, to which i was told they have never had a problem with a warranty claim if the bike was serviced on the millage instead of the every 6 months. A bit of good news i though that will save me a few quid next month. I will probably need to get it done in July nyway after the AR and NW3.5 plus a few other rides in the sun.

Shame on you.

I know, but compared to some SS600 owners that is well over two years worth.

You could service it yourself and save even more money.

As 4K service is probably only dropping the oil and changing the filter, I think you should do this.
Oil degrades over time as well as use, so bear that in mind.
You can do it, then still get the dealer stamp for the 4k service in a few months time.
well i want it done at a dealer anyhow, to ensure they cant wriggle out of any warranty claim i may need in the future.

If your that worried about them wriggling out of a warranty claim, then I'd make sure the service was done and the book stamped. IF they wanted to wriggle out of a claim, all they would have to say is you didn't get the bike serviced as per the service manual. I don't think a statement from you saying the dealer said it would be OK would make them change their mind.

When I had my Zx6 I phoned Kawasaki Uk and asked them if there was an issue with meservicing the bike myself. They said as long as the items that are marked with a 'K' in the service manual are carried out by a qualified Kawasaki dealer then there won't be an issue. From memory very few items in the service booklet are marked with that 'K' (valves etc). You can do almost all the servcing yourself, at least then you'll know it was done right.
Yeah i see your point, but it would be serviced as per the schedual on miles covered. And GW said they have never had a problem with Kwak and doing any warranty work if t hade been done on milage rather than time.

+1, My thoughts as well
£35 and a half hours work should see it done

I'm quite sure it'll say miles covered or time spent which ever is the soonest. Just ignore me, I expect I am scare mongering. Hell I do all my own servicing anyway.

But you're not worried about making a warranty claim in the future are you? (it's far too late for "the bucket" )

Hmm, not sure about that. Say you had the bike sitting in a garage for two years not being ridden. Setting service intervals by mileage alone seems daft to me. Common sense prevails I guess.

Ahhh but you are obviously not a Power-Ranging Weekend Warrior-Princess :P
(Sorry Neio, but couldn't resist)
Mind you, only put 2k on the Zed since I got it on 1st March...... (4.5 mile each way commute doesnt help me rack the miles, but as its A23 to Moorgate its got to be some of the most interesting road to commute on)

I agree Dan, but if thats what the Kwak Quack says, then he's got it in writing.

I have had it since the first week in december, and i dont use it everyday, its a toy as i have two cars to chose from for the rubbish days. I dont like riding in the rain.

That is ok SoulKiss, i suppose i am effectivly, but like i said its because i am fortunate enough that i can pick and choose my days to be on the bike. If like you i lived/wprked in or arround a big city i too would ride every day, and probably not on the 6R.

Like you say i have it in writing now from them, and its getting saved just in case i need it. I agree it could be silly to wait for 4000 miles if it was goingto take me an other 6 months, but i will reach it n an other 2 months so it wil be getting serviced about 2 months after the 6 month point. I was just after clarity on their take on waiting that bit longer. They are happy so it will wait till 4000 miles :) .
