View Full Version : Why does riding a bike make you want to pee so badly?
So, on a ride out with Soulkiss, Rictus and Messie on Sunday, luckily after Messie had left us, I proved not once but twice that while bears may poo in the woods, they definitely pee by the side of the road!
Those on last years AR may remember me "marking" one of the junctions while marking one of the junctions, too...
Why is it that the bike riding position makes the need to pee come on so strong and sudden?

Having said that, I often stop to admire the scenery and take the oportunity to have a wee wee. Really annoys Luckypants, having to stop all the time!

I`m gonna start taking my camera out with me and get my revenge
Bear it gets me as well, no point in me getting a bike which can travel intergalactic miles on one tank as I need one after about 100 miles anyway.

The Vibration from the bike can cause irritation of the bladder , it fills itself with fluid to make you go for a pee in the vain hope you will flush the irritation . Cold can also make you want to pee for some reason that escapes me .

Cold can also make you want to pee for some reason that escapes me .
To put it simply.......
In the cold a person will have to urinate from cold diuresis - A condition where the surface blood vessels constrict in response to cold. This constriction causes greater volume pressure in the bloodstream which is detected by the kidneys. The kidneys will "pull off" the excess fluid to reduce the pressure. The kidneys then excrete the fluid, causing the bladder to fill. This is one way in which the body protects the amount of heat lost at the surface) a full bladder can mean additional heat loss. Urinating will conserve some heat.

That was it , I`d heard that before when I complained about having to stop every 20 minutes when I was mountain biking in the winter , the theory of it all had escaped me in the mists of time , or was that the steam of Urine ? ..... I forget :D

I think you just get too excited.
Maybe you should get a bag fitted?

Umm not too much of a problem, I tend dehydrate when riding anyway. But if you want to pee lots dive me trust, I would take on about 1/2 litre of water before a dive, the first thing I do when I come up is make a run for bog. You have never seen someone dekit so quickly out of suba gear before:D (its to do with change in pressure, how it acts on the body)
But if you want to pee lots dive me trust
Does anyone understand this sentence? Chris, have you been possessed by the spirit of Yoda?

On the positive side...
Even with the SV's tank....I never have to worry about running out of petrol! :D
The fuel light has only been on once since I bought in new in 2002!
My bladder has a 100 mile limit....might as well fill the tank on the same stop.
Ok, drank 500ml bottle of coke, rode 120 miles, I have yet to pee!
More news as this story develops!

You guys or gals that have ever raced before....notice how even if you pee 10 minutes earlier...as you get called to stage....:smt103 The urge to go hits me like a wave! It's just a temporary thing though that passes almost as quickly as it comes about. Nerves? Prostrate? Too much coffee? A supressed and as yet undiscovered Superpower?

Adrenal response, think caveman era.... if you were facing a sabre tooth tiger instead of a race, emptying the bladder would be a pretty good idea to run quicker. Happens before a fight or anything else like that

Yes its amazing that happens I used to get that feeling when i raced boats, I had the same feeling when I was nearly under a 4x4 (the driver deicided to cut across 3 lanes into mine without looking or any idication:smt091)
Ah yes wee in the wet suit you can always tell if your dive buddy goes, cause it you feel that warm haze as you float/swim by that would be pee that you swan through:smt016
If you go in dry suit, well yous get swim in your own.
Yup I saw a blue haze at the foot of the bed the other day, yoda has indeed take over several times, but what can ya do?
