Ok so got into work yesterday, the oh so lovable chain store Matalan, and was given a 'bonus' of ?30 in vouchers randomly to spend instore, for those of us who have been there since before November :smt102
Now I reckon the guys up top have basically added up all the money us as employees have spent since the store opened (that being last January) and divided it up between us...so basically we're think we're getting bonuses when they're just given us back what we've spent, only to be spent again :-|
Now I'm probably wrong but I don't think we ever get much from employers for nothing. This kind of thing would just be a good incentive for current employees to stay on in the hope of getting the bonuses again
So anyway, I'm wondering if bonuses are common among you hard workers, and if so what do you get?
only bonus is lots of holidays
Yep, we get a performance bonus.................every month we turn over more than 120k in sales we get a percentage of the amount.

That's good, least you have something to look forward to that way and I guess work towards :)
I handed in my notice there last week, so tis just as well I didn't leave any earlier haha #takes vouchers and runs # :smt077
Had performance related bonuses in the past, and they've been very welcome. One of my mates works in the city on big bucks, some sort of IT bod for a French insurance/pensions company. He's on majorly big money to start with, approaching six figures, and his yearly bonus last year was 124% of salary, yes, he more than doubled his yearly salary with one bonus payment. I want his job.

Lol, well seemingly bonuses must be common, good to know people are being rewarded for all their hard work!
(although I understand that one's definition of hard work may be a little debatable :D)
Hey, I work at Matalan in skem, crap arent they ? :D well actually I used to work for matalan then they sold out the drivers to a logistics company called wincantons and guess what they,re worse :D:D cant beleive I'm smiling. Although one year I got ?565 in bonuses so I invested in Matalan at ?5 a share, then sold em when they hit ?29 a share so I suppose I cant complain, so you must work at the aber store then ? small world, wouldnt want to paint it though ;)

You see, the management can't do any right can they!!
Look its a little 'tankyou' ... to them a ?30 store voucher is probably only going to cost them what a fiver, perhaps a tenner? everyone's happy :money: .. or at least they should be unless their name is MYC obviously!! :D
And yes, a bonus is sign of reward for either hard work or loyalty :smt045

+1...the guys who are grade 6 and above (45k+) get bonuses...
the guys who are grade 5 ( 30 - 44999k) get naff all yet we seem to work harder than the prats above us!
Figure that one out..They are highly paid imbersiles and then when we work hard they benefit again....some of them on a 20% bonus!
SO i must figure away to ge my next grade because to tell u the truth...
IM JUST SO GOD DAM JEALOUS!

MissYC, I'm sure Matalan (have no idea what they are like as an employer) wouldn't fund a retention drive by giving everyone ?30 of vouchers, it's not enough to keep someone from leaving but it's a nice token of recognition.
It's strange the effect of giving a bonus can have. My company did not pay one department an annual bonus last year as they thought the amount was derisory (?500!!) and the recipients would treat it with suspicion, this was based on the perceived attitude of the staff. Absolute rubbish and who would turn down ?500. It went back in the the same bonus pool our CEO had ?2.3m out of!
I guess what I'm trying to say is make sure you make it as easy as possible for management to give you a bonus, if they are up to something (like retaining staff) then your in a good position.

Well I've been there one and a half years and have just handed in my notice last week so I'm in a good position because if I'd have decided to hand it in just a couple of weeks earlier I probably wouldn't have got the bonus haha.
Am also in a good position because I should be able to return in the autumn, however that will depend on whether my position is open. So am not complaining!
Now the only dilemma is what do I spend my £30 on! Couldn't have chosen a better time, nothing like a bit of retail therapy in the middle of revision and exams haha :smt003
Paid holidays?
sort of paid holidays. they take our salary for the 40 weeks we work and divide it by 12. I finish up end of June til mid August and still get a full salary in July and August. When I say a full salary I mean my usual salary as i would not describe it as full lol

You're right it is a nice token, just very unexpected lol. I'm not good with surprises

not too bad then. I guess anything extra is going to be welcomed!

We used to get bonuses. It was nice to suddenly find an extra couple of grand in the bank at the end of difficult projects. But now, think yourself luck to have a job
