No expert but that looks like a Huntsman (http://museumvictoria.com.au/DiscoveryCentre/Infosheets/Spiders-found-in-Victoria/Victorian-huntsman/) think it might be a little lost

You have carpet in your kitchen?!!? :D
Here, I for one actually like domestic spiders ... sure, that one was a bit freaky looking ... but basically if I see a normal spider in my house (however large) I am actually pleased (sure it is not like I'd want to go an stroke it, but it is not like I want it gone) ...
Why you might ask???
Because spiders trap and eat midgeies and stuff that really would/does hurt/bite/annoy me!! :smt091
So little :spiderman: are welcome in my house 8)

I would rather have had that this morning!!! I spent about 10 minutes trying to catch a cockroach at my work, between cringing and tap danceing round about it and having a screaming abdab trying to get this thing into a container as the bosses like proof that we realy did see them, yuch me skins still crawling thinking about. Bugs dont generally bother me but this was massive!

Yup, that little lady is a Woodlouse spider. She wouldn't of been hunting flies, and you're unlikely to see a web.
Like the name suggests, they eat woodlice, and they don't make a web because woodlice can eat the web to release themselves, so there's little point.
Was the camera zoomed in? Generally, woodlouse spiders are a pretty rare sight, and where there's one, there's more.
Whlst the venom isn't toxic to humans, the bite can bloody hurt, and I certainly wouldn't advise picking one up with your bare hands.
Keep your eye out for her brothers & sisters, and if there are young kids around I'd consider pest control (professional ones). Although, in our house, I'd call pest control for the spider's benefit, as I know what my 3rd old is like!!

Hmm definitely rather you than me on that one, I don't think I could cope with cockroaches :smt103
Does anyone get silverfish? We get them in the bathroom sometimes, they're about 2-3mm long and thrive in humid conditions, feeding on shampoo and soap compounds in (the bathroom anyway) :puker:
Here's one

so we do get those then? Never seen one, I'm guessing they're not normally seen in houses?

Nah, they're pretty rare (didn't read my whole post did you? ;) ). But generally, wherever there's a lot of woodlice, a woodlouse spider won't be that far behind.
As for silverfish, we get them all the time.
Then, almost every concievable animal/insect often gets brought home with us due to my youngest. I'm considering charging entry to friends/family due to us technically living in a zoo!

No the camera wasn't zoomed in at all. If its a woodlouse spider then should I check for woodlice?!:o

Then even for a female, that spider looks a little on the large size. Females should grow to approx 2cm (fangs to back of abdomen).
No woodlice == no woodlouse spiders. If you did call a professional pest controller, they'd go for woodlice anyhow, and the spider(s) would then either move on, or die.

When we were on holiday in spain last time, I very nearly lost a curry because of ONE of those little fkers!
Not because of the bug either... because my 2 cousins were sat either side of me and nearly knocked the table over other side of the place! Girls!
(the owners did ply us all with loads of free booze though....)
