Thought it would be useful to have a dedicated thread for the track day. I know we have the other where we discussed track days in general but this is specifically for all those who are actually attending on the 16th.

Hence - please vote on the poll so that we all know who is going and who is not.

Book here (http://www.trackdays.co.uk/calendar/find.aspx?d=2008-6-16&v=Rockingham)

I've booked and looking forward to it. Read that Rockingham is a good track for first timers :-)

Jon - You getting a Power Ranger outfit then?

KnightRider

Borrowing Simon's one. Might invest in a proper outfit in the winter when prices are down.

OK so now that's two dedicated threads for the trackday.

Dan_uk and I are booked in too..

Last time I went to Brands, I forgot to do my leather zips up, was then in a fluster trying to do it up on the line as people were starting the session. doh.. so embarrassing and it's not very easy doing it whilst sat on the bike. There's always one.. me

Same as ..... Just need to get the time off work now! :p

Did we decide on getting a van? If it's 50-60 quid then should cost a 5er each or so..

Will get on the blower tomorrow and book. Looks like I'll have to keep the SV for a few more weeks then. i won't vote until I have a confirmed place though. I will be riding like Rossi (after ten pints and a blow to the head). I can't afford to crash again so probably quite sedate in all honesty.

Sosha, did you have any issues with your Micron can at your last trackday - the dB limit is 105, that should be OK right?

Stig

I thought we could chat next week at the Shire meet regarding the logistical side of things.

Van hire and such like. So come equipped with some questions and hopefully some answers too.

Passed with flying colours and so did TSMs which was probably louder....

Session 2 = fast
Session 3 = faster
Session 4 = crash

Booked the trackday but not recieved confirmation yet.

I chose option 1 as I will riding like Rossi........ Mr. Rossi

http://www.bozzetto.com/Rossi/rossi2.gif
Therefore I will be riding like a muppet, accidentally going sideways, and probably backing it into a tyrewall!

So, if you guys hire a recovery van then I don't mind chipping in, just in case.

I have also persuaded a mate to come and so there will be a TL thou joining us too.

Stig
15-05-08, 05:24 PM
Just so everyone is clear about transport arrangements.

After speaking with a few at the Shire on Tuesday and subsequent conversations after...

There will be no recovery van being taken. It would basically mean hiring a van for 4 days which is excessive for a single track day.

The track will allow free storage of your motorcycle should you not be able to ride it home.

There will be two spare seats within 4 wheeled vehicles and the obvious selection of pillion seats to choose from. So getting back home after the event should not be an issue.

This would also mean the hire of a van for a single day should it be required to go back and collect the bike(s).

Mari & Dan have kindly offered to use their "track day" van to go back and recover the bike(s). This is assuming I guess if they are available on the same day as you.

That is all.

Odd sort of place - kind of in the middle of an industrial estate.

i don't know if they are still on the market, but Nescafe used to do a coffee in a can thing where you pulled a tab on the bottom of the cup and it mixed two chemicals which had an exothermic reaction - one instant hot coffee! I got a few questions -

Do we need to remove our numberplates?

Do all lights have to be taped up or just headlight?

Will my can need to have the baffle in?

Mirrors must be removed?

Is anyone planning on bringing a selection of tools or shall we all just bring what we think we will need?

That is all.... for now!

monkey
19-05-08, 09:12 PM
You shouldn't have to do any of them. Mirrors are best off po at least folded in so you don't look in them. speedo can be taped up so you don't look at it, number plate is personal choice (plus it's been said insurers have noted these before) and noise level is very high. Might be worth bringing your baffle in case you get pulled in though. They don't often noise test before going on track but they might do drive bys. Headlight only has to be taped up of it's made of glass as far as I know. I just take the tools to take my bits off which should cover most things anyway but there'll always be someone if you're really stuck.
:)

StreetHawk
19-05-08, 09:21 PM
Cheers mate, my plate is stuck on so will leave it as is.. The can isn't very loud for an unbaffled can so I think that'll be alright too. Good tip about the speedo, no need to know how fast you are going is there? Does a pit lane speed limit apply??

monkey
19-05-08, 09:30 PM
Yeah. They'll tell you all about stuff like that at the briefing.

Don't worry, all will become very clear on the day. Sometimes it's a bit of a panic getting there, doing the briefing and prepping the bike for track but if you haven't got a lot to do it should be fine. I would say to get booked in as soon as you can so you don't waste time queing. If it's hot be prepared to drop your tyre pressures a bit to make the most of your grip. Tyres get so much warmer on the track you won't believe it.
:)

rigor
19-05-08, 10:02 PM
Top tip: If you want decent photos from the trackside photographers.....

Turn off your headlights! Or disconnect them (and tape them if you want)

The extra light from the headlights messes with the exposure of the pics. OK, it's saveable in photoshop, but it makes for a nicer pic if you don't have your lights on :)

- Kettle, some mugs and coffee/tea making stuff.

- Limited selection of tools

Give us a shout if you can think of anything else we can carry for anyone.

"surgery"?

How many seconds can it take to reach into the back of the headlight and disconnect it?

Don't just tape over them, pull the connections to the bulbs. If you put tape of the lit bulb, the glue will melt onto your lens :)

He has a naked so need to undo the screw to remove the headlight from the headlight bowl. So some "surgery" required. I reckon that'll total about 90 of them there seconds.

Sounds good to me mate. Yeah, the Valentino skill package I ordered hasn't appeared yet either - I guess they must be on backorder. Ah well.

I guess we should plan a route as it will be REALLY dull just to ride up the motorway. could ride the FOT from aylesbury then get on the A43 to Northampton then carry on past to Kettering then a6003 to corby and rockingham. Mostly a roads but better than the M40

I had a similar degree of fun last night fitting a proper tail tidy. Whichever previous owner was responsible for the sawn-off monstrosity it exhibited has managed to do away with the reg plate light completely and the nuts holding the indicators on were seized good and proper - so much so that one of the bolts tore itself completely out of the indicator housing. Might be a job for Mr Araldite.
