I know I've got loads of little obsessive habits and sometimes it can get really annoying. However, despite that, I kind of like it. I think it's nicer when things are in some sort of order.

Does anyone else have any OCD tendencies? If so, what are they?

I am really weird when it comes to locking doors. I end up checking if they are locked loads.

I like all my shirts to be on hangers, and I like all the hanger hooks facing the same way on the rail, ie pointing away from me. It drives me mental when I see hangers all jumbled up. And I like the mugs neatly stacked in the cupboard, in lines, not shoved in any old how.

I think everyone has at least a mild case of O.C.D. My housemate used to be really bad about the washing hands thing. We'd go out and everytime we got to a new place the first thing she'd do was go straight to the loos to wash her hands.

I can be a bit obsessive about cleaning sometimes, but I doubt if it's owt to do with OCD seeing as living with a bunch of students is just asking for trouble in that department. Oh and when I used to stay at a friend's with keys to their place, when I locked up I'd sometimes get halfway down the hill and have to go back to double/triple check I'd done it. But again that was probably because it was someone else's house :smt102

There's probably a very fine line between having the actual disorder and just being downright paranoid.

I think I fall into the downright paranoid area there. Like you said, I am only funny about doors at other peoples places.

Yep.....Obsessional Polishing Disorder...lol. In seriousness, I do have OCD I can't get out of the house without checking stuff for ages, then when I've finally got down the road I go back to check again. I've been sat pillion on the back of Im Indoors and I've made him go back before now. Its worse when I lock up at night, being on my own I get obsessive about me leavin things open.....just in case the bogey man might appear, wouldn't mind but the dogs would be inclined to notice if he did

Used to collect

empty Ciggarette packets - 1 year?
empty Nescafe Jars - 2 years?
and then Paperclips - 5 years?

Not had any collections for a longgggg time now!

OCD? I dunno - but useful when directed properly........never really been a big one on giving fancy new names to stuff like "a bit strange" and "a bit thick"

My girlfriend has almost 100% genuine cleaning OCD.

She is a psycho when it come to cleaning and sometimes I even have to question whether or not she is taking the **** and putting it on.

I cook dinner every night, I will then clean up.....she will then spend another 30 - 60 minutes cleaning up after me?????

Or she will make a drink, then get out some cleaning wipes and wipe down the WHOLE work top.......

I like to have things in order... i'm worse now than i ever was! But i don't think i am O.C.D, just have a couple of habits :)

When putting the plates away out of the dishwasher, they have to go into the cupboard in the correct sets... so all our grey plates together and all our white plates together (the same with bowls and the small plates).

I hang the coat hangers in the wardrobe facing the same way and again in their set order (wooden ones together and plastic ones together) but only do this when they are not holding anything... otherwise my clothes get hung in their groups... shirts together, jumpers trousers etc lol

All my t-shirts are ironed and folded identically and carefully ordered in their draw. All socks are folded correctly and in their drawer. I can't bear putting clothes away that have not been ironed (except for undies - don't do undies).

do you not bundle up socks in pairs? Why fold them?

I find myself lining things up by eye quite often. Like the edge of something in the foreground to the edge of something further away. Odd.

Ah! I now see the error of my poor England. In the context of sock mechanics, folded correctly means bundled up in pairs as your correct terminology exposes. I also pile/arrange the bundles in a rather neat & tidy fashion.

My OCD trait is numbers. Can't stand odd numbers unless it is a 5. Odd fractions are OK as long as they end in a 5. So 3 is horrible as is 3.7, but 3.75 is fine. Can never have the volume on the TV on 7, but 8 is fine. 70mph is fine but 75 is a much more attractive number.......officer.

Shoes is the other one. Must be in pairs and lined up neatly. Shoe shops get on my nerves. All those single handed shoes on display. *shudder*

The worst of mine and it drives drew insane is that we can’t have a number that is divisible by 3, for the volume of things such as TV or radio.

Apart from that really just things that others have said, hangers the right way, toilet roll the right way on the holder. Also I sometimes think my switch/ credit card have been stolen if drew has not put them back in the right place in my purse!!!!

Nearly all of thos make perfect sense to me:oops:. My OCD like habits include:
Tv or radio has to be on an even number. Windows are chromed metals can not have finger prints on them. Everything has to be at 45 or 90 degrees of eachother, if possible. If there are two straight edges they have to be parallel. Any coloured pens should be arranged in order, with any labels facing up and all pen lids pointing in one direction. The corners of the duvet have to be right in the corners of the duvet cover. Dust has to be cleaned up. It doesn't matter which way the loo roll is facing but all the loo rolls in the house must be in the same style. A door is either fully open or fully closed - it can't be left in the middle. Blinds must all be parallel and there must be no tangles. If I'm using paper it can't be dented, distorted, creased. All coat hangers face the same direction with everything on them facing in one direction, they are then separated into type of clothing. All t-shirts folded the same way and put in 'their order'.

That's all of them except for what I have to do before I go to bed - I have to open and close my airing cupboard doors, lock them. Close any open drawers or doors in my room, pull the curtains shut then arrange them 'til I'm happy. Flick the lights off, close the door, get into bed, click my back, and then turn over 3 times before I can sleep.

I think that's it :p

Then when i get to bed i have to check my alarm on my digital clock is set for the right time 3/4 times to get me up for work.

I guess i'm just weird where alarms are concerned...lol.

I'll see that lot and raise you this:

My socks are all folded in a particular way and are stacked in neat rows in the drawer. All tools in my toolchests must be in their correct places, in size order with manufacturers names facing upwards. Books must be stacked in rows in the shelves in height order, going from highest on left to shortest on right. All shoes must be lined up in pairs under the bed and heels all in perfect line with each other and parallel to the bed edge. All cables must be out of sight. Anything on my desk must be either in symmetry with something on the other side, or be parallel to the edges. Even my kid's photos on my shelf are in age order with eldest on left to youngest on right (it does my head in that they don't all look the same, it's so unsymmetrical). Loo roll must have the open edge on the facing side, not near the wall. Remotes are lined up at 90 deg to the desk and parallel to each other.

It's no small wonder I'm single.

:D I can relate to a lot of these, but what about keys?

Keys on a keyring *have* to be in size order. And the jagerty bits have to point the same way.

And I can't get out of bed unless it's a "round" number on the clock. Round in this case means 5 mins. 6 mins past? no good, gotta stay in 'till 10!

Shoe laces in a new pair of shoes can't have twists in 'em.

I'm sure I have a whole lot more :D

Yup! Keys have to be in that order for me too. The bed thing isn't I problem anymore although it used to be and I've got shoes that are almost a year old and the laces are still not twisted!! I've got loads thinking about it!!

Guys, sorry to come across as all PC but OCD is no laughing matter. It can be so severe that is truly disabling. It is normal to have healthy levels of anxiety but in some people the anxiety goes into overdrive, the part of the brain that normally dismisses fleeting thoughts gets "stuck" and then the sufferer is tormented by distressing and disturbing thoughts which they try to get rid of by performing compulsions. All the compulsive behaviour does is reinforce the obsessions and it becomes a vicious tormenting circle. Sufferers live in fear of imagined/possible catastrophes. Not fun and not funny. Waiting lists for therapy can be up to 18 months.

My son, now aged 15, used to suffer with OCD when he was very young. His bedroom was immaculate, spotless and absolutely everything had a place and was to be found in it at all times or he'd go completely mental. He was only about 3 or 4 at the time, and I think he picked up the habits from me with my obsessive tidyness.

If I needed to punish him it was easy, I'd just remove one shoe from the line under his bed. I did this once with a new pair of trainers, just took one away. Next day I was emptying the kitchen bin out into the wheelie and found the other trainer sitting on top - he just couldn't stand to have only one shoe in his room so he threw it out even though he knew I had the other one.

My ex told me I had to stop doing this to him as it was basically mental torture....but it was fun watching him running around the house in a fluster trying desperately to find what was missing.

Nowadays it's a different story, his room is a typical teenage tip, which is healthy.
