I have a leather jacket which i`ve never worn mainly cos the leather is so stiff its almost uncomfortable, don`t feel i can move properly in it. Has anyone any ideas on how i can soften the leather?? are there any products available to do this. Many thanks

You could try Neatsfoot oil, it works a treat on hiking boots.

Proper leather food will most likely help, not sure walking products will maintain abrasion resistance. K is the resident leather expert and she will no doubt help us on this one.

+ 1 on the Renapur, I used it on a set of gloves that had gone stiff and it returned them to a nice supple state again.

Renapur is good, but there are other makes as well, in fact just about anything with linseed oil in it will do (don't use window putty though :( ).
Cheers Mark.

Years ago somebody used to swear by something called Mars Oil , was used on horse saddles etc . They even reviewed it in a bike mag and the guy said he put too much on and it turned a pair of Gaerne boots into flip flops lol

Get it nice and wet ... then wear it, this will help mould it to your erm ... er ... 'curves' ... if it fits properly it'll seem more malleable!! 8) ... if it doesn't then just wear it wet ... it WILL be more malleable :D

lol both of you.... handy tips and i`ll erm bear them in mind!!
Renapur, Mars Oil, Gliptone (http://www.liquidleather.com/) are all good.
I was told not to use pure neatsfoot oil on clothing leather as it makes it too soft and it gets all out of shape. Don't use saddle soap on clothing either, it's fine for saddles though!
(Edit - new linky, old one was duff! Cheers Badger)
