View Full Version : Thankyou......mandp.com
So today I was on my way, when there were two loud 'pings' behind me, so I stopped and found that my lunch (tailpack) was at risk of falling off.

One phone call to mandp.com later, and theres 2 new Oxford bungees coming my way today. I've only had it 3 months, and used them maybe 20 times each?
Good on them. All they asked for was my order reference.
Huzzah for nice people.
PS - motto of the story, always carry a cargo net.
Loss of your lunchbox - very nasty!

It's not free stuff, it's stuff replacing other stuff that broke prematurely. I'd expect nothing less from any supplier.
I've just sent my ex's Oxford Sports tankbag back to Oxford Products because the main zip has failed. That tankbag is at least 5 years old and has done many many thousands of miles of being used almost daily by both me and her, but they're fixing or replacing it with no quibbles at all under their Lifetime Warranty. That's the kind of service I have come to expect from Oxford.

That'll be the copper's daughter from Merseyside or North Wales area? I read the coroner's report on that case, she hadn't strapped it down with the manufacturers recommended amount of bungees, and hadn't strapped it down at all well with what little she had used. You can't blame a tailpack falling into a wheel on someone's lack of attention.
Yerp - as above - this is after 3months of use, not a freebie ;)
I checked the Oxford website who said they ask you to take it back to where you bought it from, but if its been 5 years, I guess the vendor/retailer will just refer you back to the manufacturer.

Oooh, I like the sound of this. I have a full set of Oxford luggage, I found that the waterproof covers on the panniers are..
What's that phrase.??
Oh yeah.. KAK
Used them twice in the rain, the stitching fell apart at the back. The panniers and the tank and tail pack are bob on.. Fantastico, but the covers report card would read "Must try harder". Only problem is I don't think I have them any more to show them the stitching came undone. I'd had them for over a year before I needed to use the covers so thought they would be out of warrantee

Hmm, not sure about this. Theres a section on Oxfords FAQ page IIRC that says that zippers, zips, pouches and anything else not "the bag" isnt covered.
Bungees don't apply to this section, yet......

Yeah, again the covers failing (or being generally kak) is excluded from the Lifetime Guarantee...
Motto = "If you're gonna make something kak, don't promise to fix it when its broke"
Cunning eh?
The zip tags are not covered but the zipper itself is, they said send it to them they'll have a looksy and decide. Since its no good as is, all I potentilly loose is postage. Thanks Ooger.

According to the Oxford Products warranty that I've just read on their website, the zips are covered, but not the zip-tags, (the bit you pull on). Rain covers and bungees aren't included in the warranty, but under the Sale of Goods Act you should be ok for replacement of those for anything up to 12 months anyway.

Not quite true.
I bought some boots approx 18months ago, and specifcally paid more for Gore-tex lining (lifetime waterproof gurantee).
On NW3, my feet got a little wet, not overly, just a little moist. So off I went to the store I bought them from. The woman behind the till took one look at the boots, typed in what they were into the computer, then asked for my address. Here you go, brand new boots. We'll send your old ones off to the manufacturers. Nothing to pay, ever. That was Woods in Abergele.
I also know of HG doing similar service.

I remember this, it was on the M53 near Wallasey if I remember correctly.

Thats the one yes, i wasnt saying that tailpacks are all dangerous just that care needs to be taken when using them to make sure they are correctly attatched, very sad story that was.
OK, death aside (with all due respect, and that was a derail), back to a bit more positive news.
Just 24 hours after I logged the problem with mandp - today the following arrived (remember I only snapped 2 cords)
3 x 370mm Oxford bungees, price labelled at 99p and ?2.99 (?)
1 x 450mm Oxford bungees, unpriced
a free catalog.
free postage and
some sort of referral for a discount at devitt
Well done them.
I am genuinely pleased when I find reputable companies, they're so few and far between, once they have your money.

This is just good customer service (it's at the discretion of the outlet I believe, though law states they are bound to provide goods "fit for purpose" my experience has been varied), and it all depends on how friendly the retailer is, and how good a relationship they have with the manufacturer, who in this instance seem very good indeed.
