How many dogs you got now?!?! (thought you already had 2-3).
And how come there was such a wait?? ... daddy dog not doing his duty as his missus was a right b1tch who refused to put-out?!??!? :D
wahey. You gonna race her when she gets older?
Yes we will :D She's also going to be shown, cause she's come from a really good breeder, so hopefully she will do well. Her parents are gorgeous.
She'll also do weight pull and carry a backpack, like Lupo does already.
Beauty. Like those pics too. Especially the top one. :)

She will be our second dog, we fostered Mia for a while, and Lupo is now coming up on 2.
We had to wait, cause bitches only come into season every six months, but we knew that this was the dog we wanted, so were happy to wait. Then of course there's "brewing time" (9 weeks), and we then can only pick her up at 14 weeks old.... it seems like it's been forever!

I think having to wait for her makes it all the more exciting, not only gives you something to look forward to but makes you appreciate her all the more when she comes home :D
Lupo will no doubt love the company too

She'll start training at 8 months (ish), and they can't race until they're 1, just in time for the end of the season :p as it gets too hot to run from March to September...

In total??? LOL we'd hate to think what Lupo has cost us so far LOL and Mina already and she isn't even home yet...
initial cost for pup = £600 - £1000 (depending on breeder)
then you will need... a bigger car as 2 fully grown Malamutes will not fit in a conventional estate car
rig, harnesses, ganglines, dog scooter, spare ganglines and harnesses, bike rack for car, public liability insurance for racing and permit to run on the land.
dog crates, dog bedding, toys.... more toys.... more bedding...
vaccinations, medication for any problems they pick up through the year... hotspots being a big problem in this breed... dog insurance
dog training - obedience at least once every 2 weeks (we used to go everyweek) agility training during the summer to keep them active out of race season, hydrotherapy to keep muscle built up during the summer and also keeps them cool.
Leads, collars.... more leads, more collars just in case they break out of the ones they are wearing.
Dog food, dog treats.
New garden fencing to at least 6ft high as these guys can jump!! and also something under the fence as these guys love to dig!!!
then you start saving for the third dog and you buy a new van with dog cages, and enough room for you to sleep and live in for a weekend away racing. and then more of everything listed above LOL!!! Malamutes are pack animals and if you were to get one, once it reaches 18 months and he/she is very well trained then you would want to get another. Malamutes are addictive!!!
Did i also mention... a new house as the garden just isn't big enough for the dog to run in??? Oh and always have household insurance as these guys love to chew when bored... also keep a malamute destruction fund ;)
I think thats it LOL!!!

Malamutes are addictive!!!
never heard the breed spoken, I have been trying to pronounce this all thread ...
how do you do it?? MaRla-mut, Ma-la-mute??
missyburd
10-05-08, 05:28 PM
then you will need...
Are you trying to put him off ?!?!?!
hydrotherapy....why not just take them to the nearest lake/sea? or is neither not readily available..
Ma-la-mute
That one
Or Ma-la-moot I've heard both from people who've had the breed much longer than we have.
I've also heard Husky, Wolf Dog, Alsatian Cross, Snow Dog, Wolf, and from one very small child .... "Look mummy a Tiger!" :smt119
Are you trying to put him off ?!?!?!
hydrotherapy....why not just take them to the nearest lake/sea? or is neither not readily available..
We take Lupo swimming in canals and lakes, but the problem is mud, he loves it, our house not so much.
We also don't let him off lead, so he can't really swim that much on walks. He enjoys paddling though :D

Ah can agree with you 100% there, dogs + mud is equivalent of doggie drugs me thinks :)

Lol just being realistic lol!!!
As for hydrotherapy... it is basically a pool with jets and they swim against the current :D great for "resistance training" i think its called LOL!!
