Was a bit bored this fine Saturday afternoon and thought i'd post this thread.
Let me know your thoughts and why. Post an opinion even if you don't really like these groups or music... I'm curiuos to know. :smt035

Neither. But if it had to be either it'd be the Stones, for Paint It Black mainly. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're both brilliant at what they did, and they influenced most of the bands I listen to, but I've never got through more than 4 or 5 of either band's songs without switching off.

Why do you like Paint it Black in particular??? What music do you listen to that they might have influenced like you said???

Rolling Stones every time.
Beatles had great talent in their time, and JL was politically ahead of his time(if quite barking:p)but the Stones stuff has stood the test of time so much better, just as the band has.I never tire of hearing it,and always go to see them play.

Because it sounds evil, even today... There's probably other songs they've done that I'd like, but they seem to be buried in ones that bore me to tears.

I reckon the Stones influence most bands that've lifted a guitar since, in some way- either directly or through other bands. Frinstance, I'm a huge Wildhearts fan, when they did their song 29 x The Pain which is basically a huge list of namechecks, the Beatles and the Stones were on the same line (flanked by the Replacements and Husker Du on one side and the Ramones and the Pistols on the other). Course, you could reasonably say that the Stones in turn were influenced by loads of other bands, and they were just passing on that influence.

I went to see the Shine a Light film the other week and that lived up to my expectations of them. What were they like when you went to see them live, Biggles??? I'm not sure if i'd want to see them live know in case it ruins my vision/opinion of them...

Seen them lots of times and they always put on a good show being experienced professionals.
Northy====if you like a bit of "dark" try Sympathy for the Devil.

Yeah, Paint it Black  But dunno if that was more to do with "Tour of Duty" or the Stones LOL :D

Not a big music buff, no idea who sung / wrote most of the stuff I like!

Doesn't do it for me for some reason. Though I can tell it's good, it's not for me. Perhaps I was poisoned against it by the Guns N Roses version :D

Ah yes, i remember getting back at silly o clock in the morning after a night on the lash, turning the tv on and watching that, singing along and waking the folks up.

True, both amazing albums. I think Rubber Soul is where the Beatles started to write much better music. Well Oiled, what are your opinions on albums like Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, and Sticky Fingers etc...??? Do you hate the Stones or just prefer the Beatles???

The Rolling Stones!!
http://cenvachristiansportbike.homestead.com/Rolling_Stones.gif

The Beatles had some great songs in their day and were probably a bigger influence on popular music...at the time...
But...I always liked the Stones better and listening to them both today...the Stones songs still sound good.
Can't say the same for most of the Fab Four's music.

Nope - don't hate the Stones at all, quite like some of their music, and bought way back. Particularly enjoy doing guitar hero on my son's PS3 to paint it black :) .

The Beatles had such an influence on all aspects of music (and still do) and there's such a depth in the evolution of their music. To me they are far and away the greatest ever. Oh and I agree - Rubber Soul was the album where the music got more interesting. Maybe something was influencing that :smt033

Has to be the Stones, seen them 3 times.

Strangest track for them has to be this one from 1964 (http://www.twsoft.co.uk/sv/08-under_the_boardwalk-pyt.mp3)

I know, it was on the 1964 12x5 album, that also contained classics such as:-

Time is on my side, its all over now. It was a nasty shock to find Jagger doing that

patrick - very much so!

its got the good tunes and then the more mellow ones, everyone i find myself singing along to, whereas some of the beatles songs are abit dodgy eventhough the album might have a few greats on it

Beatles for me- Revolver ("Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream, it is not dying, it is not dying")

Love the Stones too- though mostly find myself listening to Hot Rocks- I find they're much more of a singles band. Though, for albums, I like Let It Bleed most. Sympathy for the Devil and Gimme Shelter are firm favourites.

Beatles, because from a music technology point of view-which is what I'm more interested in- they moved the game on a lot further than the Stones (or any other band for that matter) did. That said, I'm not a massive fan of their music, although I used to like them as a kid.
