Our first quick stop for refreshments.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70809.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70809.jpg)

Where we are also joined by Artylady (far right of the image)

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70811.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70811.jpg)

Loads of bikes here.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70812.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70812.jpg)

Sean's bike.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70815.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70815.jpg)

Then it's off to our next stop for food, drinks and a natter. Here are the bikes.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70816.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70816.jpg) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70817.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70817.jpg) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70822.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70822.jpg)

ArtyLady then went her own way but we were then joined by Sosha (far right of the image).

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70829.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70829.jpg)

Sean and BigBadDad plan on which is the best way to get us lost again.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70825.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70825.jpg)

About half way between the above stop and our finishing stop we come across a young lad that had come off his bike going road a bend. We all stopped and tried to help in anyway we could. The paramedics come and it looked majority like road rash. His very protective T-shirt and trousers didn't do anything to help

Then the worst possible thing to happen. Sean (the leader) decides to use his on road bike for a spot of off road action but the bike comes off worse.

This is the bend he went straight on at.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70834.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70834.jpg)

I personally think Sean (left of the above image) come off very lucky. On the left there is a barbed wire fence, in the centre next to Pete is a ditch he jumped and on the right is that metal barrier. He missed it all and ended up in the undergrowth.

The bike.

The new style of lunge, the crashed bike lunge.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70838.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70838.jpg)

Then onto our final stop at Perry.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70841.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70841.jpg) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70842.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70842.jpg) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70843.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70843.jpg) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/th_STA70844.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Seggons/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Perry/?action=view&current=STA70844.jpg)

I almost did because I also went into the corner well to hot. It was Pete slowly down that made me get to the brakes in time. At least your alright and could manage a smile about it at the time.

One criticism Seggons, which I think you've remedied now, is that you don't "blip" your throttle on the downchanges. You can hear the clutch screaming. :(

Looking forward to the next two instalments :D

It's funny you should say that because I too thought the same thing when watching it back.
Just been and watched some other videos and it seems I only blip when I focus on blipping. As soon as concentrate on something else I go back to the gear down, clutch out scenario. That instant burst of engine braking when letting the clutch out like that becomes addictive, obviously doesn't do the bike any favours.

Need to get me a bikesafe and one of those track days that teach all about body position and riding tips on a track. But first I need to earn the money, what it is to be poor. :D

Not only is it a bit harsh on the bike it's also could cause problems with premature lockup of the rear wheel, especially on slippery roads.

Check out Bikesafe. Could be free or very cheap in your area.

I thought on the NW vids you did blip. :)

It's hard to tell from the videos because the mic is so overwhelmed. As soon as Dogcamsport release the new mic with adjustable gain It'll be obvious what I'm up to.

I couldnt hear anything of the clutch screaming, but I didnt watch for too long. Sounds really scary though; I'm going back to blipping rather than gently letting the clutch out....i was trying to save fuel

ArtyLady
28-05-08, 02:33 PM
what's blipping? I just throttle off, clutch in, gear change, release clutch smoothly as poss - isnt that correct? or having I been doing it all wrong all these years?

Seggons
28-05-08, 04:42 PM
It's not wrong at all but blipping the throttle smoothens the whole process out especially at higher rpm. What blipping consists of is when you go to change down, pull the clutch in, change down, give the throttle a little tweak (blip) and then let the clutch out.

What happens when you change down normally is when you pull the clutch in it starts to slow down. For example if you change down at 5000 rpm by the time you've pulled the clutch in and changed down the clutch might only be doing 4000 rpm and your engine will be doing 6000 rpm. When you let the clutch out it then has to play catch up with the engine. If you give the throttle a little blip to raise the revs during the change down process the clutch doesn't have to play catch up and makes it a smoother process.

But I could be talking rubbish, the above is the way I've interpretated what blipping is.
