View Full Version : Hein Gericke - Help
Hi,
After some help / advice.
Bought a new AGV lid yesterday and whilst I'm happy with the fit and styling, by god its noisy and windy. The vents make no difference whether they are open or closed. Previously had an Arai which was considerably better and it was a toss up between another Araia or AGV.
I asked the guy whether its possible to return the lid if I want happy with it, to which he replied no.
Does anyone on here work for HG and can help or offer any suggestions about changing the lid.
Thanks
Andy

I dont realy know of anywhere that would give you a refund on a lid cos you dont like it, i recon they should have some demo lids so you can try before you buy but that aint going to happen. Best bet if you cant live with it is try and sell it on ebay but you will have to take a hit on it.

thats the trouble with lids, I bought a Nolan (from HG - asked them to check it fitted me too:rolleyes:) but I soon knew that it didnt really fit properly and was too heavy for me but they wouldnt take it back. Do you use earplugs? - my Shoei is noisy and I cant ride without them.:)
would any one buy a lid that been droped a few times ?
the insides may well be damaged, making it useless when YOU need it most.
so the shops dont take back lids.......
its your head on the line, as such....
all you can really do is ask people on their view, but then again it will be their view...................
aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh what can i say..pot luck, maybe.:smt104

I bought an AGV stealth and whilst i like the look of the helmet I find it really uncomfortable to wear and can`t turn my head properly... only worn it about 4 times so its now lying in its box on top of my wardrobe as good as new. Felt great in the shop but riding whilst wearing it was a totally different matter altogether.

No use it sitting in the wardrobe speedy get it bunged on ebay if your never going to use it.
claire,
if the lid is tight......the more you use it....it will losen up a bit, hopefully
making it more better fitting.....
my penny's worth....
I got the AGV GP PRO, and yet, where it's a comfortable helmet the wind noise is horrendous, easy option my friend, wear ear plugs.

It isn`t tight Tony, its just too wide around the chin and when I turn my head it catches on my shoulder :(
ah an easy answer...........
don't turn your head too much..............
put a picture of it and put for sale on this forum.....
your a careful owner, so it may be a bargine for someone here...:smt020

thanks Tony... i`ll do that. Is a shame it`s sat there when someone might be glad of a good lid for a cheap price :D
I think i'll put on Ebay and see what happens.
Its a shame, should have done more investigating instead of buying it blind.

I'd definitely agree that it would be helpful if you could try a 'tester' lid out before you buy, as you're not the first person to have made this mistake!
My other half bought an AGV at Metropolis a few years back - he went in originally intending on getting an Arai, saying that his top priority was a quiet lid. However the sales guy swore blind that the equivalent AGV was quieter, so he went for that instead. 2 mins down the road he realised it wasn't and rode straight back to the shop to ask to swap it for the Arai instead, but they basically said tough luck. TBH he never got anywhere with them over it, and in fact they were very rude (which is why i never go there for anything even now)
Now most places aren't quite that unpleasant, but TBH if you've had a it a few days and didn't mention the quietness thing at time of sale, I think you'll struggle to get a refund unfortunately. You can understand why (they can't resell for safety reasons) but I still think there's a real gap in customer service around this area...

I've never tried this, but this seems like an ideal place for abusign the distance selling regs- mail order companies are required to give you a refund on items you buy, even if there's no particular reason for the return. it's a really OTT bit of legislation and gives you huge ****-taking abilities, which would include (for example) buying a helmet then returning it. Not sure I approve but it'd do the job.

Hmmm....
the only bit in the DSR that appears to limit this would be the exception:
"goods that by reason of their nature cannot be returned"
But I'd guess you'd have to argue that a helmet can be returned.... in court if neccessary. There is a bit in there that says the DSR doesn't take into account H&S issues....

Yeah, I think there's some precedent for that which basically says it doesn't cover disposables and perishables, but that shouldn't be an issue. But tbh even if it works I wouldn't be happy doing it, would you? It seems like the only reason the DSRs aren't a problem is that nobody knows about them to me...

My AGV S4 is a lot quieter than my Aria Viper GT. Without earplugs in I get a terrible earache after 30 minutes on motorway riding, never had a problem with the AGV.
I am also finding that my is not as stable over 80ish, I can feel it pulling off my head, where as my AGV was snug.
I am putting the noise down to the difference between a v-twin throb and IL4 scream, still not nice spending £320 on a lame duck!

Tried ear plugs? I have a few mates who refuse to wear earplugs but I tried some on the off chance and I think they're the best thing ever. You don't realise just how much wind noise your ears have to tolerate until you ride with earplugs then have to ride without them.
Halfords sell bags of them with around 50 pairs or so for about 10 quid? Take a little getting used to but it could be a cheaper option to try before losing a fair whack on a brand new lid which you're happy with, with the exception of wind noise. If you don't want to splash a tenner on a bag of ear plugs, I'll post a pair to you lol. Oh and you can use one pair 2-3 times :) (or more if you're not too hygene conscious).
Just a thought :)

I second that - try the earplugs, you will soon get used to them!
I now cannot ride without them.
I've got a shoei raid and although the fit is good the noise is not!

Ooooh just my size! How much you after for it?
I think I'll give the earplugs a go if I dont manage to sell it first. Probably keep it as a summer lid as the ventilation is good in this hot weather. Come the winter, I think It will freeze my face off. Its so breezy even at a relatively slow speed with the visor down compared to the Arai Condor.
Interesting what you say about mail order companies as they allow you to return the lid whereas HG dont. At the bottom of the receipt is specifically says this.

Hi,
It was an AGV Airtech see below.
1713
Great looking lid but wasn't nearly as good as the Arai Condor. Alot of wind noise and it felt quite breezy to the face despite having the visor down. It also had one of those under the chin buckles which I now know I dont like. I prefer double D's .
To be honest I needed a new lid and rushed to HG and bought one without doing an research on it.
I sold the lid on Ebay a couple of weeks back and looking to buy an Arai Chaser or Viper.
Thanks

I have an S-4 Stealth and an ARIA Viper GT, I find the ARIA a lot noisier than the AGV, the only reason that I changed was that you cannot get the pinlok visor for the S-4 and the anti-mist coat does not last long on the AGV visor.
The AGV S-4 also has 5***** in the new sharp test, where as the ARIA has 3*** although I am not sure how relevant these are.

It's quite simple, no shop I know of will accept a helmet back once it has left the shop, be that by mail order or otherwise, unless it has a manufactures defect that requires a refund or replacement under warranty.
When I was a sales rep selling hundreds of helmets a day into dealers, I'd advise shops to put up a simple sign by the till that stated that helmets could not be returned. You'll find one of those signs in every Gericke store right by the till. When I was retailing helmets I always pointed this sign out to customers and made them check the helmet right over to ensure they were happy with their purchase, again stating that once it's left the shop it couldn't be returned unless there was a genuine fault with it.
You'd be surprised the amount of people who'd try to return a lid and claim I hadn't told them, but backed off when I invited them to watch the security tapes I kept in the office.

im so sorry i couldnt help much more
Thanks for the advice everyone.
I should have walked away like I was going to instead of rushing to buy a new lid but I guess you learn by your mistakes.

hiya i work for hien gericke, im sorry to say but it is law that we can not take any helmets back unless it is a manufactures default, even then it has to be proven by the manufacture wind noise is not part of your warranty.
have you asked the hg store you bought it in to adjust the visor??
